Chapter 6
Hope in despair
“Ssh, don’t scream please!” the voice whispered to Lily.
Slowly, Lily turned around and shone the torch at the person behind her.
He was a tall boy, and looked similar to Lily’s age, he had spiky ginger hair and green eyes.
He was wearing a pair of old torn jeans and a red checked shirt and also had a large blue duffle bag that was hanging over his shoulders.
The boy blinked a couple of times when the light was shone into his eyes but he didn’t make any attempt to look away.
“Sorry I scared you” he murmured.
Instantly Lily was relieved to see another human, she wasn’t alone anymore. Her heart beat became less rapid as her body started to relax again.
“Wh...Who are you?” Lily asked, still in shock that she’d found another human.
“I’m Jack” replied the boy.
Lily nodded before speaking.
“I’m Lily”
“You look hungry” exclaimed Jack.
“Yeah, I kind of am didn’t eat since lunch time yesterday” Lily said feeling slightly embarrassed, she’d only just remembered how hungry she actually was.
“I’ve good food and water, you want some?” Jack replied, opening his bag.
Lily felt a tiny pang of guilt inside her, was this stranger she’d only recently met going to give her food? Didn’t he need it for himself?
“Are you sure you don’t mind?” Lily trailed on.
“Chill, I’ve packed loads seriously I’m not going to let you starve” Jack said taking out a bottle of water and a chocolate bar before handing it over to Lily.
“Thanks” Lily whispered. Her throat was dry and ached. She ripped off the lid before gulping down the whole bottle within seconds.
“Whoa, you really were thirsty” Jack said with a surprised expression.
Jack took off his duffle bag, dropping it to the ground. Before sitting down on a nearby fallen log.
Lily noticed and sat down beside him, while tearing open the wrapper of the chocolate bar.
“So you didn’t tell me how you got here” Lily said in between mouthfuls.
“Yeah I didn’t” Jack sighed before he continued to speak.
“I was with my family at home, the sky it turned black” Jack said point up at the sky. “We didn’t take any notice at the time, they all told us on the news it was a solar eclipsed that nobody expected. It wasn’t until an hour later they came.”
Lily had finished eating, she looked at Jack with a bewildered expression.
“Who? That guy with wings?” Lily interrupted.
“Err no, the hounds…”
Lily was confused, she had thought it was an invasion of demon like mass murders, but now there were dogs?
“Hounds?” Lily asked.
“Yeah haven’t you seen them? There all over the streets killing people. There like a normal dog, but much larger, stronger and more powerful they have fangs and all!”
“No, I haven’t so how did you escape if there were all over the streets?” Lily asked shocked.
Killer dogs lose on the streets of Britain. How come nobody was doing anything about it? Lily wondered.
