They both held their breath as they waited. The footsteps faded and they exhaled.
"What does he want?" Feline whispered.
"I don't-"
A voice in his head provided him with the answer.
"Revenge. He hates humans," he said.
"Why?"
"They treated him badly in his previous life."
"Then how do we put him back?"
"I don-"
There again. That voice.
He carefully repeated it, "He feeds on fear to stay alive. The fear of people. And he can detect where people is if they are angry. Anger and fear."
"Are you saying that if people aren't afraid of him, then he'll automatically go back to his world?"
"Uhm... Maybe?"
"Then we must make them unafraid of him. There must be a way."
Nick agreed. "But first, we must get out of here."
Feline peeked out and saw that the aisles were deserted. She sighed and opened the secret door.
"Wait, how did you know this place?"
"Shopping. Now let's go."
'She was in the hotel, so she must be a foreigner, yet she knows this place?' he thought to himself, amazed. 'Girls.'
They walked for a few minutes, searching for a sign of danger, but they found nothing.
Two little boys came running to them, crying.
"Dad!" one of them yelled.
"Mom!" the other wailed.
They were both clearly lost.
"Hey, boys!" Feline said in a hushed tone.
They both came running to the two people who had just met.
"Stay with us, but be quiet."
"Mom!" one of them continued wailing.
The other boy, his brother, tried to silence the two-year-old wailing boy, but he didn't succeed.
Feline whispered something to the crying boy's ear, but it didn't work.
"Quiet, little boy," she cooed.
Nick was losing patience. "Let's just go. They'll only slow us down."
The older boy, hearing this, cried out, "Don't leave us!"
"Quiet!" Nick snapped.
They all heard the ominous laugh of the monster who was once a kitten.
"There you are, gifted human," he laughed triumphantly.
The boys whimpered and stayed close to Feline.
The voice in Nick's head once again talked, "Anger."
Nick cursed silently. Why had he snapped at the children?
Nick suddenly found his courage. "You tricked me," he said, burning with anger.
Cladz laughed. "I did. And I succeeded."
"What do you want from me? I have let you out!" he yelled.
"Well, I come to kill you as you're also the only one who can lock me back in my world." He smiled evilly.
Cladz charged, claws unsheathed.
"Run!" Nick said for the third time in a day.
Cladz was much bigger than them and it was much harder for him to chase them through narrow aisles. They lost him in no time, even though the boys did slow them down.
As soon as they got out of the store, they heard a woman's voice yelled, "Dalton! Myrou!"
"Mom!!"
The boys ran to their mother.
"Thank, you two." And they walked away.
"What do we do now?"
"We must tell them the truth. Make them unafraid," Feline replied.
"How?"
Feline's eyes sparkled. "Just announce it from the speaker. It's a mall!"
Nick smiled.
