its been about three days since we came to the leaf, we are currently staying inside the academy. its the middle of summer so school doesn't start for a few months yet, the hokage thought that this would be a good place to get us fed and used to our surroundings.
as a plus, one of the ninja, I believe his name was Iruka , agreed to stay at the school with us and help catch us up on thing most kids our ages know. reading, writing, how to use chopsticks, stuff like that. he was quite impressed at how fast we pick things up, but that's just normal, on the street you've got to learn quick, if you don't learn, well you don't eat.
I would normally stay in the back with a sleeping Kimi for a few reasons, one: Someone needs to look out for her, two: I can listen in on the lesson and still get all the necessary information, and three: I've realized that my presence seems to upset Iruka-sensei . I mean its not like he doesn't want me there it just every time he looks my way he seems to get distracted and gets this sad look in his eyes, I cant blame him but I don't need pity, so I stay back and let him teach the others.
today was it though, word had been spread around the leaf and its surrounding villages. today was the day we were all supposed to get adopted. everyone was excited, some even making plans, like Miko and Kaiza had agreed to except no one who wouldn't take the both of them no matter how much trouble they are, the rest sat daydreaming about what it will be like and a few where scared that no one would want them and they would be left behind.
me? I was one of them. I had never been adopted before and can barely remember my REAL family, no one has ever wanted me, so why would that change now. I was afraid... NO I was terrified that my life on the street would continue, except this time I would be alone, the others wouldn't be there to help keep me going.
I shook the thought out of my head No bad missy don't think like that, this is there only chance to be happy with a new family, stop being so self-centered. Baka
we all went out into the front yard of the school. I once again sat in the shade of a tree, but to my surprise little Kimi joined me and sat snuggled into my lap. the two of us sat there watching the adults come and go, and laughing at the smiling faces of those who got adopted as there new family filled out the paper work. to my surprise not a single one was adopted by a family here in the leaf village. most all were from nearby towns. even some from other elemental nations as they passed through on there way home.
Genna got adopted by a nice young women and her husband who couldn't have kids for themselves, that came from a nearby village and ran a tea shop. some of the older boys got taken in by residents of the hidden waterfall village. and, after much searching, Miko and Kaiza found a middle-aged ninja from the hidden cloud village to take them in. it was almost dinner time when I saw a couple in fancy clothing and an aura of importance around them.
looking at them I thought I have to get them to take in little Kimi, im sure they'll take good care of her.
im not usually one to meddle but I knew that if she stayed over here with me away from everyone she would be skipped over. so I tapped her, getting her attention away from the flower crown she was making. she looked up at me expectantly "hey little one, see those two over there, they look like they need something to help cheer them up" witch wasn't a lie they did look a bit depressed, not seeing anyone who caught there attention among the remaining orphans " why don't you go give some of your flowers to them, im sure that would cheer them up, what do you think?"
the girl, ignorant of what I was doing, lit up at the chance to make someone happy. so without even responding to me she stood up, not even bothering to wipe the mud and grass off her skirt , and ran over to the couple and offered her newly made flower crown to the women. her husband crouched down to her level and began asking her things. Kimi's answers must have just been too cute because it wasn't long before she came running back to me with a smile on her face.
