We were late. I knew it. I gulped as I looked into his eyes, he just smiled and nodded, then kissed the frown off my lips. I looked up into his eyes and he was as happy as I’d ever seen him. I blushed and touched the fresh noticeable bite mark on my neck. I looked down at the floor, as my scuffed up black converse clicked on the tile floor. We walked hand in hand past Gym A to Room 301. It had been over two weeks since we had last gone to school.
I could already see Mr. Howard nattering on through the window. And groaned. World History had to be the most boring class in the history of ever. I gave Drew my best puppy dog look and he sighed.
‘Hails, we can’t avoid school forever just because you don’t like it.’ He scolded me kindly.
‘But Drew…’ I whined. I could see his hesitation and inner turmoil. He gulped ad faced me.
‘We’re going to class, no buts about it.’ He said strictly. I sighed. So close. He reached for the door and turned the handle. The door swung open and we stepped inside. People gasped and chattered instantly as they saw our hands laced together.
But none of it matter. Now that we were mated our packs had joined. I had Lucy and Tanner by my side again. And my Dad and John… despite their stubborn clashing personalities, were making an attempt to get along. The door clicked shut behind us and Mr. Howard turned to face us.
‘Look who finally decides to show up.’ He glared at us.
‘You know what…!’ I started but Drew squeezed my hand and I shut my eyes and took a deep breath.
‘I assure you Mr. Howard, it won’t happen again.’ Drew said in the kind polite voice that teachers and adults alike loved.
‘It better not Mr. Holiday,’ he said. ‘But now that you’re finally here, you can present your project.’ Drew and I turned and looked at each other. Shit.
