"What was that even about yesterday?" Jay waits for me before US history outside the classroom.
"I don't know Kylie's just being dramatic. I think its that time of the month." I glare at him distintively. Lying to him to mask my true feelings.
"Oh that explains part of it I guess." Jay shifts uncomfortably because of the subject.
"What do you mean by part of it?" I ask confused.
We take our seats at the back of the room. "Well it seemed like there was something else going on besides that." His eyes look to the floor, hinting that he's uncomfortable. "Something about the way she pulled you away from me." He takes out a blue three subject notebook with animations drawn all over the cover. "Did you say something to her?"
"Umm no. I have no idea why she was acting like that. It really got me tight."
"Aww come on Mia. I'm not stupid."
That was my cue to take out my pink three subject notebook to pretend like I want to pay attention. My eyes remain looking down to avoid eye contact at all costs.
"Mia?" He reaches over and pokes my bare arm which causes a cool sensation to spread throught my body, causing me to flinch slightly which provokes the attention of the teacher.
"Are you two serious?" Mr. McAss interrupts us, this time I'm thankful, so that I don't have to be antagonized any further. "Jay come sit right up here front and center. So I can babysit you." At this the class chuckles lightly.
"I think you can babysit me from back here just fine." His smile is crocked upwards on the right side of his face, which makes me shift uncomfortably in my seat.
"Jayden, I am not in the mood for your childish games today. So stop talking to your girlfriend and situate yourself up here please. I am not going to ask you again."
At this the class erupts into 'Oh's' and 'damn's.' Reluctantly, but without saying another word Jay walks to the front of the room, I can tell that he felt defeated. The entire room watches him while whispering and laughing to one another. Because of the comment, I stare at my notebook intently, without saying a word the entire period.
As the period is about to end, Jay turns around and stares at me for a straight minute his expression, unreadable. To alleviate the awkwardness I look back down at my notebook. The page, full of spirals, swirls, dots, and bubbled letters. The bell rings and I let out a sigh, relieved. The class gets up and they all manage to push their way out of the only door. Just as I'm free, I nearly get my arm torn off. As I'm pulled to the side of the classroom, I know exactly who it is. I turn my head towards the grey locker, I look down at the floor to avoid his gaze, to avoid the awkwardness."Mia, I know exactly what she was talking about. I don't want to hurt you anymore." He grabs my face. "Mia look at me please." I look up and meet his gaze, his eyes are pleading, desperate almost.
"Jay. I can't do-" my voice breaks, and I break away from his hold. "Won't do this." I place my hands over his, and for those 2 seconds that our skin brushes together, I get cold all over. I then take his hands away from my face quietly, I stand there for a few seconds.
"Mia." His voice is quiet. "Please don't.."
Without saying a word I slip away from his grasp. Tears slide down my face, and I make my way to the bathroom fully aware of the fact that I am going to be late to my next class.
I run straight into a stall so that no one would see me breaking down. My hand is pressed over my mouth so that my cries and whimpers are muffled.
The voices stop, and the room is silent besides my soft whimpers. I go to the level of my feet to the right, and to the left of my feet. There are no feet besides mine, which gives me the go ahead to come out.
My reflection stares right back at me, my eyes appear purple and puffy and there are black streaks down my cheek. My hands feel cold and dry against the cold marble counter of the sinks. Before I fix my face, I wipe the newly forming tears on my cheeks. To calm down, I take a deep breath in, and release it. It helps, but not enough. After grabbing some tissue paper from the stall and drying my eyes I apply some concealer around my eyes, then reapply mascara.
Once I finish, I realize that I've missed half the period. Instead of going to Chemistry, I remember that I have an appointment, but it wasn't supposed to be until after next period. With that I am able to lighten up, I grab my bag and head out to the general office to wait for my mother.
