"So how was your day?" My mother imeadiately probes while I enter the car.
"Fine." To avoid any further questions, I throw on my headphones and recline the chair. Before I know it I'm asleep.
"Yes she has been okay... No I don't think so"
"I'm glad to hear that."
Two distinctive voices wake me up from my once pleasant nap. My neck is soar from my past uncomfortable position. "Mom." I get up slowly to try to relieve. The pain throughout my body grows with each breath. 'Fuck.' The pain in my body is sharp as if there were knives stabbing me in all different parts in my body.
"Mia?!" She looks at me concerned. The lines in her face grow more noticeable revealing her concern. I see how she tries to hide it. "Cecelia, I'm going to umm."
"Tatyana, WA..."
Without letting her finish, she hangs up. She does this while never taking an eye off of me."Ma-om." I take in a sharp breath. Something sharp hits me in the stomach causing me to feel extremely nauseous.
"What do you feel right now?" She tries to hide the concern, but the wrinkle in between her eyebrows gives her away. As I try to get up, something stings in my nose and I feel something cold trickling down my lips. My mouth tastes metallic. I manage to lift my hand to my lips, when I smear it more on my face, I notice that my palm is smeared with blood.
"Ahhh" I scream weakly, which makes the pain in my stomach more violent."Ma-ma?" Charlie squeaks from the backseat.
"Charlie, it's okay Mia is gonna be just fine." She turns back from looking at me, and I can tell that on the inside she's petrified. "Mia, rest you head." She reaches for the glove compartment, while keeping one hand on the steering wheel and staring straight ahead to keep her eyes on the road.
"Mom, it's okay. I'm o..." Before I could finish she finds what she was reaching for and hands it to me. On the inside I am appreciative, but I'm sure that on the outside me expression reveals the amount of pain that I am in. I quickly pull a handful of tissues out of the box and basically smear them onto my face as my nose drips like a leaky faucet.
"Tilt your head back." She tries to remain calm as she makes a sharp right turn.
About 20 tissues later, I hear the familiar sound of sirens, and see the large emergency walk-in sign with red painted letters. My mother parks leaves the car on, and she gets out leaving me with Charlie and runs through the automatic sliding doors. I watch her as she runs to get to the front desk. She has blood smeared on her beige top. I look in the mirror to see how Charlie's doing. His face is blank and I could tell that he's frightened, but he's quiet.
"Hi little booger!" My voice breaks, but I try to remain calm for him, staring into his eyes with the handful of bloody tissues pressed onto my face.
He doesn't say a word as he stares at me blank. My mother runs back with three lab coats trailing closely behind her, behind them, there are two nurses. each of them remains calm."Hey little man!" She goes to Charlie and unbuckles him from his car seat. The three doctors swarm me asking a multitude of question one of them unbuckles my seatbelt.
"What do you feel right now?"
"Does it hurt here?" The doctor with blond curls and light blue eyes presses on my adomin.
"Ready? can you get up." I look at the name tag on the ledt side of his lab coat, his name makes me chuckle a bit 'Dr. Sumandun' I let him pull me out of the car. As soon as I put my feet on the floor, the room spins around me and the bright hospital sign dulls.
"Breathe Mia. In through your nose out through your mouth." I am not sure who says this to me because all three doctors have faded into the distance. My ears are ringing intensely. They sit me back down in the car, and my vision returns slowly. "Okay keep breathing Mia." For a few minutes I am left sitting in the car with the two nurses trying their best to keep me comfortable.
"Mimi?" My mother lowers her hip to allow Charlie places a hand on my face, trying to make me feel better.
"Hey Charlie." I smile weakly.
A couple of minutes later the two of the doctors return with a gurney, they help me onto the gurney, as quickly as possible which causes me to black out for real this time. The last thing I hear is my mother gasping "Please help her! Please." before her face blurs I see the the tears in her eyes, then I pass out into oblivion.
