Sapphire

"Fuck" was what Sapphire muttered as she angrily slammed her alarm off, the shithole school that Miss Braid had enrolled her in was starting today. She hated living at Green Wood care home , an intellectual wasteland filled with unwanted youth like herself. Most of the kids were frightened of Sapphire so she had gotten a room to her self. There was a full length mirror opposite her bed, she studied her reflection. She looked tired. Her unruly jet black hair just emphasised the natural blonde of her eyelashes, lucky she wore mascara. Sapphire hated her body, so she usually hid it under baggy, shapeless band t-shirts. She turned on her mp3 and let Sleeping with Sirens blast in her ears as she got ready.

She used to be skinny, back before her parents left. 'You ruin everything' she remembers those words falling from her mothers mouth hitting her like a ton of bricks. At that time she didn't understand why her parents hated her. She did now, she felt the same way. She finally understood.

Sapphire looked at herself. A baggy skull shirt hiding the top of the black jeans she was wearing, dark eyeliner surrounding her emerald green eyes and her hair covered by a gray beanie. She tied up her Docs, applied an new coat of blood red nail polish and stuck the accident season in her canvas backpack.

"You not having breakfast Saph?" Asked John, one of the carers , as Sapphire trudged past the kitchen. She gave a small grunt in response 'no'. Sapphire hardly ever ate, she thought maybe that would help, maybe someone would understand. Then she realised: no one even cares. She did it anyway, maybe she'd feel better if she was skinny. Maybe.

She met Craig at the front door, Craig was three years younger than her and was bullied a lot so Sapphire protected him like a brother. They were close. Craig gave her a quick hug "Good luck S." Craig knew how hard it was for her to get through a day without breaking down, he for one did understand. "Thanks," Sapphire replied, "means a lot". She patted him on the shoulder and walked out.

The rain beat down on the top of the bus shelter, it was a minute away from Green Wood so she wasn't that soaked, her eyeliner had ran a bit but it looked nice. The bus came at least five minutes late, it was quite awkward when she got on. As she was the only one at the stop. She quickly found an empty seat and sat down, she shoved her earphones in and let her ears be flooded with 'The ballad of Mona Lisa'. The ride was tedious but she couldn't help but feel like someone was watching her.
