I woke up leaning on Derek. I tried to move gently but obviously I failed when his eyes shot open.
"Morning sunshine" he whispered.
"Hi"
I stood up to get my phone. It was 7:49 am on a Saturday. To early, especially considering the fact that we were up till 5:00. I went back and sat down next to Derek who was on his phone. He looked up at me and I looked down at his screen. He was texting John.
Derek: she woke up
John: how is she?
Derek: fine I think, she didn't say much
John: doe-
He shut the phone off as soon as he noticed I was reading it.
"Hey!" I playfully hit him. But really I was kinda mad. What were they talking about? I'm not stupid I knew it was me.
"It was about Kylie." He whispered.
I ignored him. Kylie was awake but why would Derek text my brother about that? I was angry, I had no right to be because I had no idea what they were talking about. For all I know John was getting jelly donuts. But I glared Derek anyway and left to sit next to Kylie.
Kylie was on her phone on a blanket on the floor. I wasn't trying to be nosy, but I peeked at her screen too. Instagram. Nothing interesting.
I sat down right next to her and she looked up at me and smiled. For less than a second I saw a glint of worry in her eyes, but no more than that. She draped her arm around me. She received a message only seconds later. I guess out of habit she clicked on the banner, then yanked away. Probably more violently than necessary.
"Jeez guys you and your dang messages" I complained.
"Paige, it's our business and you shouldn't be snooping through our stuff. We wouldn't snoop through your messages" snapped Pete .
"Actually you do" I sneered "and if it's about me, don't I deserve to know?"
"John reads your messages to make sure you're safe."
"Well he doesn't need to cause I'm fine!" That was a lie.
