John POV
I spent the whole day selling kids candy at Walgreens so you couldn't imagine my panic when Ryan's face appeared on the TV screen with description and warning below. I received a call from the hospital. Derek had been shot and Paige was unconscious.
I ran into the hospital and frantically searched for someone I know.
"Can I help you?" The lady at the seat inquired.
"Yes-yes I'm here for Paige Colby." I managed to say. The lady gestured behind me and I turned around to find someone I recognized. My mother.
"John!" She stood up swiftly and walked towards me.
"Mom plea-" I tried.
"I want Paige back in our house as soon as she's released from the hospital."
"Let's talk about this later." I said walking past her to find Paige's room.
"John this is not negotiable, she's moving back in!" She shouted from behind me. I ignored her. I found Paige room. Kylie was sitting by the bed.
"Kylie" I called. She turned around. "What happened?"
"He shot him." She stood up and wrapped her arms around me. I hugged back. She wasn't crying, but her face was red and tear streaked.
"John." Someone said from the doorway. My father.
"Dad." I didn't know what to say.
"You promised you would protect her." He said calmly.
"I- I didn't know." I stuttered.
"You didn't know she was kidnapped?!" He yelled.
"Dad please calm down." I tried.
"John she could have died and it would have been your fault!" He stormed up to me. "I can't believe I trusted you with my little girl!" He yelled.
"I messed up, dad! Big time! But moving back home will not help her!" I snapped.
"You don't know the first thing about what she needs." He shouted back. "You almost got her killed for gods sake!"
"I know you love her dad! You replaced me with her the minute she was born, but have you taken a minute to notice that she always came to me?" I screamed at him.
"John." Kylie said. She put her hand on my shoulder. My father was speechless.
I continued. "She comes to me with her problems, she asks Pete for help, she moved into my house! She trusts us! We're her family!"
He was crying. "John stop." Kylie pulled me towards Paige's bed. She was waking up.
