Paige POV
Sweater weather makes everything better, especially because flannels in July, and knowing why, hurts like hell.
I'm such a poet.
And then comes fall break. An entire week in my brothers living room watching Drop Dead Diva on a crowded couch. I'm not complaining, during school, I would give so much to be able to do this all day. Besides Jared spends all his time here now. With me. The acting like he's fine is just fine, the flannel collection is expanding and despite the guilt and anxiety that my boyfriend has placed upon us, he rocks.
So all is well and worry is limited besides the fact that Kylie disappeared. She hasn't been here for more than a week, and Derek has no clue as to what might have happened. Of course, everyone is concerned, but Derek is a wreck without her and no matter how many times he has denied the fact that he's worried sick, I won't just let him sit around and wonder. Derek is great boyfriend, but he needs someone to remind him to be 'committed' or whatever. So here comes me being all 'wise' and there for my friends. That's funny, I would love to say that I'm trying to help Derek and Kylie, but I'm self absorbed and simply trying to get Kylie back through Derek who in reality should be the one who is most concerned and willing to do so, making him the best candidate for my persuasive actions. But, I'm constantly surrounded by boys, and Kylie being the only girl who I am often exposed to, has become an important character in my life.
"Pete." I stood up and sort of commanded him to copy my actions.
"What?" he did exactly as I wanted and stood up, just way to perkily, and stupid. I rolled my eyes and grabbed his wrist. As predicted the annoying perkiness broke and he grudgingly followed while trying to pull back.
"I need to talk you." I said not trying to let the 'duh' in my voice escape. As soon as we were far enough away from everyone I started talking. "We need a plan to find out more information about Kylie." I said. He looked at me like I was crazy.
"That's Derek's responsibility." He said. I was surprised with the amount of logic in his words.
"And are you seeing Derek do anything about this? Because I wouldn't care if it wasn't obvious that Derek is falling apart."
"So what do I have to do with this 'built-to-fail' plan of yours?"
"Ok I'm not gonna argue with you about the meaning of friendship, and your choice of words because you've probably heard those lectures enough times and they haven't sunken in yet so one more from your best friends' little sister is probably not gonna do the trick considering my small-and-patheticness in your eyes and your pure stupidity."
"Excuse me-"
"Exactly." I cut him off and he looked willing to listen. "You need to figure out if Derek knows where Kylie lives. Don't be obvious, just figure it out."
"I'm going to help you because I understand the meaning of friendship." he said strait-faced and looked directly into my eyes as if he was saying he most serious thing in the world. It was ridiculous. I broke out laughing and fell back onto the bed. He turned around to leave the room. "and for the record, I find you slightly less small and pathetic for helping." He added.
a/n Helllo. Apologies for the extreme lack of updates, school happened and then fall break came and I was gonna write tons but I was practicing my procrastination skills for next quarter. Anyway thanks so much for the support. I know it's really confusing and I'm trying really hard to figure out how to clear some stuff up. Thanks so much for reading and I would really love a comment or two. Love you.
