Adam dragged himself up the staircase trying to figure out something to say to Echo to help her understand why he had said what he had said. He was so physically and mentally exhausted that he didn't quite know what to do with himself. He never did figure out what to say. The sight of her killed him inside but the fact that her parents hadn't said no (even if they didn't say yes) made him happier than ever. She might have been his, but she was still angry. Adam sat beside of her on the bed.

"What can I do to make it better?" he asked, sounding older than he rightfully should.

"Explain." she ordered, refusing to look at him.

"Okay, that I can do. My thought processes went as follows. I happen to be a naturally selfish person. I want you all to myself forever. But is that really okay? Where can i get a second opinion? It would have to be somebody who loves you as much or more so than I do. Someone who is just as selfish with you and your time and your safety as I am. Someone who can decide whether you are safer with or without me. A wise person once said 'if you love something set it free. If it comes back it's yours.'"

"What did they say?" she asked softly and fearfully.

"They didn't." he answered happily. "I decided to take it as an 'I can keep you.'"

Echo rolled over onto her side so she could see him. For the first time she realized he had been crying too.

"Echo all i want is the best for you. If that's not me then..."

"Adam you are the best thing that's happened to me in a very very long time. Don't ever say that you aren't good for me. You make me a better person every time i come around you. I love you and you are the only person I want. Now I'm sleepy."

"Wait a second. Isn't this the part where I get a kiss?" Adam asked as smoothly as he could.

"We'll see, lover boy." she said."

"That, I am." he said kissing her hard on the mouth once.

“ Oh, my God! I totally forgot about it! “Adam scurried to his work bench leaving Echo looking confused. On the bench sat a small box made of a shiny sort of metal. Using a pair of tongs he lifted something out after the steam dissipated enough for him to see in. “Adam, what is it?” Echo asked, her curiosity getting the best of her. “Just something for class tomorrow.” He lied. Echo could always tell when he lied to her. “Don’t look or you will ruin the surprise.” He continued putting his body between the work bench and Echo.

Echo was too tired to really care. She strode over to him her eyes at half-mast. ”I’m sleepy.” She held her hands up in the air in a ‘pick me up’ kind of way, unaware that it made Adam’s shirts come up even higher than they already were. Adam raised his eyebrows but picked her up bridal style anyway and laid her down on what they had unknowingly deemed her side of the bed.

“Anything you might need, love?” Adam asked getting a little bit tired as well.

“Touch.” She commanded sleepily, pulling off his sweatshirt. Adam held down the t-shirt politely and closed his eyes super tight.

“Gladly.” Adam chuckled. He was glad she had that much trust in him. He wrapped one arm around her thin waist and pulled Echo closer. His chin rested on the top of her head and his knees were right behind hers where they fit perfectly.

“Don’t forget” said Echo sadly. “Tomorrow I’m just another student.” She closed her eyes and was barely awake enough to hear Adam murmur. “You were never just another student to me.”

Once he was calmed down enough to sleep Adam dreamed a very strange dream. Adam was walking into his class the next Monday morning and everyone was sitting calmly and patiently in their assigned seats waiting upon his arrival. Already this was a strange day at Finnegan High, but Adam let it slide.

“Today we are going to begin learning about asexual reproduction.” He began, he was even more shocked when not one of his students fell asleep, but he let it slide again. It did have the word sex in it.

“Mr. Young, are you alright?” Dream Echo asked, worriedly.

“I’m fine, Echo. Thank you, though for asking.” He answered with one of his crinkle eyed smiles.

“Mr. Young, do you know this guy standing outside of our window?!” asked the student next to the window beside of Echo. All of a sudden the glass window shattered and the two girls screamed and ran to the other side of the room. A grown man, Jack Young came in and grabbed Echo and took off with her. She screamed Adam’s name until the two were out of earshot. Adam, frozen in fear, had been unable to do anything about it.

Adam awoke in a cold sweat remembering vividly exactly what had occurred in the dream as though it had been real life. And that was exactly what it had felt like.  IF it had not been for Echo lying there barely an inch away from him, he might have cried or screamed the way he usually did after one of the oft recurring dreams like that. He stared at her, sleeping peacefully on one of arms for quite a few minutes barely daring to even breathe, just to convince himself that the past few days were totally and completely real.
