Beep! Beep! Beep! Beep! Beep! Bee--Click! Moa smashes the alarm button and lays in bed. Her eyes were sore from the cold morning that opening them would be to painful to bear if it's the first thing that's done to start the day. She rubs the eyes crusts that formed around her eyes and continues to lay in bed not wanting to detach herself from the warmth bed. As much as she doesn't want to, she lifts her groggy body out of bed, heads to the bathroom to wash up and gets ready for school. After freshening up and getting dressed she heads to the kitchen where her mom was making breakfast. "Good morning!" greeted her mom. "Mmmm--Morning..." mumbled Moa as she tried to force the smallest of speaking efforts from her lips. "Would you like me to drop you off at school? I don't have to go to work early today." "No, no, it's okay. I'll walk to school with my friends." "You sure? It's really cold this morning." "I'll be okay mom, thank you." Moa finishes her breakfast and heads out the front door where she was welcomed by a sucker punch from the blistering cold wind. "Oi! Nani shitennen omae?! Bakayaro! Omae wa kanzen bakayaro desuyo!" Moa yelled at the wind, indirectly offending the people outside trying to get to work.
While she was walking, a faint voice called out to her from behind. "Oi! Oi! Moa, wait up!" She stopped and turned around seeing her friend run up to her at break-neck speed. "Oh, it's Souji Yuusuke", she thought to herself. Souji Yuusuke is one of Moa's closest friends ever since they were in primary school. He's a clumsy yet lovable person to be around. Optimism is the name of his game and he has helped Moa through her moments of sadness and pessimism. Although the first impression he gives off is that of a light-hearted free spirit, he can be a serious and buckle-down type of guy if the occasion needs him to be. Once he caught up to her and his heavy panting subsided, they continued their trek towards school.
"Hey Moa, did you hear the news?"
"What news?"
"Y'know, about the new student transferring from Hokkaido?"
"No. What does that have to do with me, anyways?"
"Well, there's a high probability he might be coming to our homeroom. We have an empty spot left by Kagami since his family moved to Europe."
"But why do you care so much? What if they're a jerk?"
"Psh! No they won't. Besides, they're new! I thrive on things that are different. I live, breathe, sleep, and feast on new experiences! The new student might be a really interesting person! You're being quite judgmental today Moa, that's not like you. What's wrong?"
"Morning. Morning is what's wrong."
"Aww...Moa-chan maji Moa-chan yo ne~? It's out of our hands on when school starts, so we just gotta deal with it. Unless...you magically become Prime Minister Kikuchi--which in that case--make me taichou of the All-You-Can-Eat Udon Department of Mass-Consumption, yeah?"
"Mmmm...no. I'll make you my pet monkey and name you Busaiku."
"Do I get udon?"
"Yeah, but you gotta work for it."
"Deal! Challenge accepted!" Their conversation ends as they reach the front of their school and head to their classroom.
The school day ended just as slow as how it started. There wasn't any announcement of a new student from the school or from their homeroom teacher. As Moa was rushing through the hallway to meet up with Yuusuke and their other friends waiting at the front gate, she was suddenly blindsided by a figure. "Ah! I'm sorry." Moa said slightly embarrassed. The unknown person was wearing normal, casual clothes and turned around to face Moa. His hair was relatively short and messy, his physical stature wasn't too daunting but wasn't too short either; Moa was around his shoulder height. His skin was impeccable with a light tanned complexion. He gave a sly smile and opened his mouth to speak. "It's alright. I should be the one to apologize for getting in your way. You seem to be in a rush." Words couldn't come out of Moa's mouth as she stood there just gazing at him in amazement. "Um...are you okay? You're not traumatized are you?" After a few seconds, Moa finally found the nerve to speak. "Oh-Oh, I'm okay. I'm fine." Still unsure of her well-being but not wanting to be too skeptical he responded, "Okay, that's good to hear." Suddenly a mature, feminine voice from behind the boy yelled out, "Tendou! Tendou?! Tendou, we have to go now." "Okay, mom! Well, it was nice bumping into you, I guess." Moa faintly answered, "Uh-yeah, yeah nice to...i guess--you too, meet." With that as their final exchange, the boy left with his mother and Moa, still with a dumb-founded look on her face, made her way to the front gate.
"Geez, took you long enough. What happened?" asked Naomi.
"I--uh...I bumped into someone in the hallway on the way here."
"Cool story, now let's get going. I don't wanna miss my train." hurried Tsukasa, another of Moa's friends.
When all their friends had gone their separate ways home, only Moa and Yuusuke were left. "Are you okay, Moa? You're starting to worry me. It's like you've seen a ghost or something." "I'm fine Yuusuke, honest." Still not convinced of his best friend's well-being, Yuusuke walked behind Moa and pretended to give her a shoulder rub while speaking in his boxing coach impression. "Y'argh! C'man, Kikuchi ya gatta getcha head in da game! Ya can't let that poor excuse of a fighter take ya for a fool--Y'argh!" "Since when did a coach become a pirate?" Moa asked while giggling. "Y'argh! These be tough times laddy." They continued to laugh mess around until they reached Moa's house. They said their goodbyes and Moa went inside.
"I'm home!" yelled Moa taking her shoes off at the front of the house.
"Welcome back! Your dad and I just made dinner."
"Oh wow, dad helped you with cooking?"
"Of course! I just love your mom soooooo much and she works sooooo hard that I blessed her with my presence and helping hands." her dad interjected.
"Yup. Shocker, right? Come on, go unwind and have dinner while it's still hot."
"Okay."
When she finished dinner, Moa went to her room to do her homework. Once homework was finished she went to take a bath to cleanse herself from the impurities of school and learning and other miscellaneous, academic-establishment shenanigans. The Kikuchi's ended their night with some Gaki no Tsukai ya Arahende before going to sleep.
