Tendou's sore eyes could barely open to the white florescent lights in the room. The air in his room smelled sanitized with a faint scent of rubbing alcohol. The pillow his head was resting on was plump and soft. The bed cover insulated his body with warmth. When his eyes got used to the lighting he could begin to see the room more clearly. The window was to his right and the sun was barely rising as darkness and shadows still roamed the early morning. The walls were painted with the upper half white and the bottom half a shade of light blue and subtly decorated with a wall decal of leaves blowing away from a tree. Instead of wearing his normal clothes he was in a hospital gown. His right index finger was smothered by a giant clip connected to a heart monitor. His left hand was clasped by Moa's hand as she was asleep beside him. As he was trying to loosen her grip, she suddenly woke up with a sense of emergency only to calm down when she saw he was awake.
"Wh-where am I?" asked Tendou.
"Where else? At the hospital." answered a groggy Moa rubbing her eyes.
"Wh-why? How did I get here? What happened, exactly?"
"Well, as you were preparing to leave my house you just suddenly collapsed and I called the ambulance where they took you to the nearest hospital. On the way to the hospital, I overheard them saying your vitals weren't looking too good."
"Where's my mom? Does she know I'm here?"
"Yes, yes. I was able to call your home phone and told her about your incident. She came to see you yesterday but you were still asleep."
"I see. I'm not sure if I want to know or not but....how long have I been...out?"
"Four days."
"Four days?!" his head jerked up as his eyes widened.
"Yup. And I took care of watching over you for all those days. I was practically your personal nurse during that time. I would stay here for as long as the visitation hours would permit me. They allowed me to stay here beyond the visitation hours after my second day visiting because they were having a lot of patients to tend to. I would give the nurses updates on your state of well-being when they dropped by to check up on you.Which, in my opinion, wasn't too hard because you just slept. Are you feeling okay?"
"I...think so. I mean, I feel fine. Thank you...for looking over me."
"You're welcome. Besides, it's not like I had anything important to do anyways."
"How about those winter assignments?" Tendou teased.
"Hm? Oh, I already finished them before winter break with Natsumi."
The door behind them opened and a doctor walked into the room.
"Oh! Hey, doctor. I didn't think you'd come from Kyoto all the way to Nagoya."
"I didn't think that I would have to either, to be honest with you. Someone from this hospital phoned me and told me a 'sensitive' patient of mine was in critical condition so I made my way here when my schedule freed up. How you holding up?"
"I'm holding up pretty well. How are the results from last month? Did you get them yet?"
"Um...I think you know the answer to that already."
"Nothing?"
"Nothing. But remember what I told you before."
"Yes, doctor. I remember it all too well."
"Well, you look to be in stable condition for now so I'm going to be leaving now. I have to go back to tend to my other patients. Take care, Mr. Tendou." With those as his final words, the doctor left the room.
"So...that was your doctor?"
"Yeah."
"What were you guys talking about with 'results from last month'?" a worried look came over Moa's face.
"Don't worry about it. It's nothing too serious."
For the next three days Moa would tend to Tendou helping in anyways she could from feeding him to cleaning him after, giving him drinks, and helping him get out of his bed to use the bathroom. On the seventh of her stay she had to quickly return home before her parents came back from their trip otherwise she would be in deep trouble. A week after Moa's departure, Tendou was finally under stable condition to be discharged from the hospital.
The remaining weeks of winter break went by faster than anyone could have anticipated and before they knew it, the new semester of school was in session.
