Drake nervously chewed his thumb nail as he sat on the couch next to his father. His dad nudged him and smiled.

"You nervous kid?" His dad asked with a broad grin.

"No." Drake said quickly, so quickly that it betrayed it as a lie. This made his father smile bigger.

"You think your mother won't like her?"

"I don't know dad..." Drake answered chewing on his thumb nail again.

"Don't worry about it kid, I won't let you mom beat up on her too much." Drake's father jested again.

"Thanks dad." Drake said returning the smile. He had just figured out why his dad looked really different to him at the moment, he shaved most of his beard off. Most women would consider Nathan Wheeler a handsome man but clean cut he was not. He typically kept a rough medium length beard and due to his burly build people would think that he is a biker. But right now he was wearing polo collared shirt and jeans and he had trimmed his beard to a goatee. Drake wrinkled his brow at his father and shook any further thoughts about the sudden change in his father's appearance he had to get his game face on. Melanie would be there any moment, and he could tell his mother was in one of her moods.

Drake went to the kitchen to see if his mother needed help with something. Drake wasn't the best cook, but he could do okay in the kitchen. His mother practically shooed him off and told him to change his shirt because the one that he was wearing made him look like a bum. He looked down and shrugged. He could have argued but he didn't want to do anything to spark his mother's ire. He trotted up stairs and took his shirt off just as he did his pocket vibrated. He pulled out his phone to see Melanie's face and the message that was under it was

I'm here.

Drake threw on the first shirt he could grab out of his closet and bolted down the stairs. He tore through the dining room, and had to slow himself down halfway down because Vanator strength kicked on. He got to the door and as fast as he could without ripping it off the hinges he opened it. Standing there wearing a blue and black dress that wasn't revealing but hugged her curves was Melanie with a big smile. Her hair was in a wavy semi- formal up do and she was wearing heels because at the moment she was as tall as Drake. She had her hand up in a fist about to knock but Drake had snatched the door open before she got the chance.

Drake Wheeler stood staring at the beautiful, well dressed lady vampire with his mouth slightly agape. He knew Melanie was beautiful, but seeing her dressed like this left him awe struck.

"You should close that, could catch a fly." Melanie said tapping Drake on his lower lip with her French tipped index finger.

"You look amazing," Drake was finally able to make out.

"Stop it Drake, your gonna make me blush." She said with a jovial tone. They both smiled at each other for a moment, before Melanie finally broke the silence. "Are you gonna invite me in?" She asked her perfectly arched eyebrows high on her head.

"Oh, I'm sorry, Melanie, please come in." Drake said almost ceremonially.

"You could have just said it normally." Melanie said shaking her head and walking past Drake. That's when Drakes father came from the living room to greet the dinner guest and he two was momentarily stunned by her beauty. He was able to shake it off to extend his hand to Melanie and introduce himself to her.

"Good evening Nathan Wheeler. You must be Melanie." Drake's father said with a bright smile.

"Pleasure to meet you Mr. Wheeler." She said shaking his hand gently.

"Please call me Nathan." Drake's dad said with a smile and a nod.

"On one condition." Melanie started.
