Candace stared blankly at the ceiling fan as it spun in a hypnotic motion. Candace couldn't sleep, not after what had happened today.
"Candace, we need talk". Greg's voice was low , and Candace instantly began to worry. Greg pulled her into his office. He shut the door and locked it. Candace began to feel giddy, feeling an overwhelming sense of satisfaction as her fantasies envisioned what would happen next. Her worry was gone and she hurriedly rushed over and moved to kiss him. He suprisingly stepped back. Candace ' s eyes flew open and she watched as Greg took two steps away from her. "Look Candace, I'm not going to sugar coat this at all. I've been a horrible person. My wife loves me and has always loved me. And then I go do this to her behind her back. It's wrong. I've completely lost myself in this and it is not fair to Gina. You're one of her closest friends. She introduced you to me, she helped you get this job as my secretary. I'm not going o continue to disrespect my wife and waste your time as well. I love Gina, and only Gina. I'm sorry but this isn't going to work out". Candace stood still her eyes wide. A million things were swirling around inside of her head. She wasn't as sad as she was disappointed. Greg was her escape. Her moment to live as she pleased, do as she wanted, without anyone breathing down on her neck. She may not have truly loved Greg, but he had become an important part of her life over the year. She had looked forward to those silent moments with him, those dreamlike encounters she could only achieve with Greg.
And she honestly had never truly liked Gina. She had simply seen her as a means to an end, a means that was sealed with her job at Greg's company. "Do you want to say something " Greg asked innocently. Greg was young and was far from malicious, and Candace knew that. She wasn't sure why he agreed to this affair but he truly did love Gina. "No" Candace said and slowly exited the room.
Candace lay in her bed thinking about that very encounter. She wasn't completely heartbroken the affair had ended, but she was in no way okay with it. She turned and say her husband beside her, fast asleep. "You should be enough " she thought. " So why do I feel as if something is still missing"? She slipped out of her bed and crept into her son's room. She stood over his crib and smiled. "He has the cutest face" she whispered. She gently stroked his head and softly began to cry. What had happened to her? She never used to be like this. She was loyal, kind, loving. She would never have entered an affair, or used Gina as she did. Her and Gina had been friends since college, and she would have never imagined doing something like this to her. Yet, this was who she had become, and it frightened her. Her tears were beginning to stream down her face. She was horrible. Absolutely horrible. How could she possibly do something as vile as this? She was going to make this right. First with her husband, then with Gina. She was going to fix the mess she created.
