Greg only had a split second to react, but not before Gina plunged the knife into his side. He toppled over and hit the floor hard. "Does it hurt, baby" Gina cooed. Greg tried to drag himself across the floor despite the pain shooting through his body. Gasoline oil and blood stained the mahogany wood floor. A wicked ambiance filled the air within the room, as if a dark spell had been cast over the two once lovers.
To say that watching Greg struggle to escape pleased Gina would be a gross understatement. She relished in his defeat. She sat at the edge of the bed, gazing upon his oily skin that was beginning to be covered in a deep red hue. The snake had finally returned to the ground, crawling on his belly towards a false sense of security. And he knew that. She couldn't help but giggle.
"You can't escape me, Greg. I am your wife. Till death do us part". Tears streamed down Greg's face. There was no one he could blame but himself.
"Gina, please forgive me" he sobbed.
The knife buried within made him twist in pain, not to mention the profuse amount of gasoline spilling into his wound.
Gina slid to the ground putting her face inches away from Greg's. "No" she breathed, yanking the knife out. Greg gave a scream and Gina kicked him hard on the side of his head. Greg shook with fear and regret. His face had now twisted into a distorted picture, as his cries became more urgent. "Please! Please! Forgive me, please"! Gina uncomfortably shifted in place. He shouldn't be this remorseful. Or maybe he didn't mean it. Maybe he was just trying to save his life.
"No" she said again, this time a little less confident than before.
Greg was suddenly feeling a little stronger now, and hearing the seed of doubt in her voice, rejuvenated his will power. "Gina, I'm so sorry" he said, this time more methodical. He was in fact sorry for what he had done, but he was far from willing to die for his mistake.
"I made a terrible mistake. But I ended it because it was wrong. I was unfair to you for what I did. Please forgive me". Gina tried to block out his words, but a part of her believed him. She could sense a certain truth in his words and a part of her yearned to end this monstrous crusade she had embarked on. Greg was her soulmate.
He didn't deserve this.
Greg could see Gina was deep in thought. He slowly began to rise, bringing himself to a kneeling position. He saw the knife on the floor and instantly thought about ramming it into her chest. But he loved her too much. He didn't want to kill her, let alone hurt her. He wanted to escape; that was all he wanted to do. Gina slumped onto the bed still pondering over whether she should give Greg another chance. This was Greg's chance.
Greg sprung into action, swiftly delivering a brutal hit to Gina's right temple. She dropped to the floor instantly. Greg fully stood up and started to run.
He stumbled over, completely forgetting the searing pain piercing his side. He gripped the door fame trying to steady himself. He slowly made his way out of the bedroom and gripping onto the railing, down the stairs as well. He reached the front door and looked up at the stairs.
"Don't worry Gina. I'll get you back" he whispered before disappearing out the door.
