Falling For You

I surprisingly arrive to class early today.

The campus is a 30 minute walk from my house, so I take this chance to exercise and stay somewhat "healthy". It's not really exercising to a lot of people, but to me it's the only thing that can prevent me from being one of those people riding hover-chairs in Wall-E. (Those hover chairs do seem pretty stinkin' cool and I would want to own something like it, but that is beside the point.)

'So this is what walking with your own two feet feels like' I would think sometimes after a long weekend of eating, sleeping, and couching. (Yes, that is a word in my dictionary.)

And let's not forget, life as a college student is fairly hard. Especially budgeting. You become extremely sensitive towards every little penny that leaves your wallet. One needs to save money, specifically excessively high gas money. All gas money does is add to the misery of frantically checking your bank account and seeing the numbers magically drop- even though half of the time you're wondering when, how and where all that money disappeared to.

Life as a college student is going to be fun, they said.

Walking takes time, unfortunately, so I'm usually a minute or two late to my classes. However today seems to be special.

Special is a nice way to put it.

I shudder.

Something told me to leave that place as soon as possible- and I didn't even give it a second thought.

I sit down on the fourth row, taking out my tablet and a stylus to prepare for the lecture. Meanwhile I stay on my phone to pass the time. The hall is extremely chilly and somewhat lonely. I wrap myself tightly with my cardigan, but it's not all that effective.

I let out a sigh.

The new morning light shines liberally through the small aligned windows on the walls high up. The welcoming light hits my hand, the rest of my body left in the shadows. I curl and uncurl my fingers, playing with the light that danced on my hand. It was peaceful and quite; it was time much wanted and needed.

Just another day, I thought. Just another day of living, breathing, existing- except with a little bit of a pizzazz. And maybe, just maybe, I'm enjoying life a little bit more.

A small smile forms on my lips without me knowing.

Chris's POV

A t-mobile theme song sounded from my pocket during work. The ringtone takes me by surprise, and I slightly jump up from my place. It takes me a while to dig through the black hole in my pocket, but I finally grab a hold of it. It's Lily's phone. My new co-worker across the room gives me a dirty look while I answer the call.

"Hello?" I speak.

"Hello?"The other person says.

It's her. I suddenly get extremely awkward due to the event that happened this morning.

"Hi!" I say with energy- maybe a little too much energy. Anything to hide the awkwardness that is trying to eat me alive.

I need to go back to kindergarten to learn basic social skills.

There's a pause on the other end of the line.

"Chris? Chris Hautmen?"

"That's me."

"Why... why do you have my phone?"
