CHAPTER TWENTY-ONE

JOHANNA

'Isn't that great?' I was so happy my first cleansing was a successful one, although Isabel's mind seemed to be elsewhere.
'How long until I join the commune?' she looked hopeful now after a minute of thought digestion.
'Aiden and Gabriel say in less than a month.' I was so cheerful that I almost skipped her back in to the chamber. The entire lesson she sat and intently listened to every one of Gabriel's words of wisdom.

Things did seem better now that most of the cleansing was done. I had gone back into a routine, only this time Aiden was back in to my life again with a passion. Once we arrived he had seemed distanced, but things went back to normal once I was a corrector. Our love had felt so new and full of life, he was taking me on long walks, brushing my hair, and we made love so much more, he even gave me some more driving lessons in the truck, as I had never really learned before.

Today we were going on a steep climb down the mountain so Aiden could show me an etching he had made as a child on a long hike to clear his mind. The sun boiled my skin and even my sweat evaporated to the immense heat it gave, but it was all worth it when he stopped me in front of a large cave like rocky area that had a flattened ground and smooth rock walls surrounding.

'I wrote this when i was nine years old.' Aiden smiled as he swiped his fingers over the rock wall with crude etched words.

I am Aiden and I will be as good as my father, and his father before him, making our religion live on forever. We will live happily ever after in the heavenly eternal life my grandfather has built for us.

'You always have had a way with words.' I whispered as we sat in awe of his masterpiece.

As we made our way back to the commune, dying to quench our thirst I seen George throw a longing glance my way, but I had to ignore him because Aiden said he was a worrying influence. Drinking what felt like a gallon of water I watched my wonderful husband drink his. He cared for me, made me one of the most important people in the world, and looked out for me in every way possible. How could I have ever thought different?
'Shall we see if Garnet is home and offer her some wine?' Aiden glanced over to our house, grabbing two bottles from Tom.
'I think she is at the markets again today, but we can see.' i swiped my sticky wet hair from my cheek and stood up, smoothing down my jeans and shirt to look proper, just how Aiden liked.

'Garnet? Are you home?' Aiden and I chanted almost in unison. At first everything sounded silent, but as our ears adjusted to the house we heard crying from her room. Aiden and I ran as we knew this wasn't her sad cry, it was a cry of pain.
'Help me, it won't stop hurting!' Garnet clutched her swollen belly tightly as she sat on her legs on the wooden floor.

'What's happened? Is the baby okay?' I frantically searched for any physical problems.

'It won't stop! Make it stop! Johanna I can't move, somethings wrong!'

Aiden lifted her up immediately and swung her into his arms before safely but swiftly raced to the commune doctor's house. I followed pursuit, barely able to run from the hefty walk we had just endured earlier today.
As I arrived at the doctor's door, Aiden had already swung back out and towards the gate where the trucks and cars were parked, and placing Garnet into the back of our car. I quickly jumped into the front seat before Aiden started it up and sped down the gravel road towards town.

Something was wrong. Other than Garnet in a serious medical emergency I felt a bizarre feeling in the pit of my stomach. As we passed the many trees and hills i noticed what it was. The only time i had left the commune was to commit my first correction job, picking up Isabel and stabbing Stanley. I felt like the only safe place in the world was the commune and dread took over my being when we left.

'You can't go into town Aiden! You will be seen by someone, let me get to the hospital myself!' Garnet heaved through her puffing and winces of pain.

'Not a chance.' Aiden hissed through his teeth and hit the gas pedal harder.

The hospital was just around the corner now and Garnets cries were even louder. I prayed for her as Aiden carried her in to the emergency area and then came back without her.

We drove out of the emergency area and then Aiden had to stop the car to breathe. It was silent for a while until Aiden smashed his closed fists in to the steering wheel.

'Dammit! Dammit! The demons bad spirits are at it again!' he screamed into his hands and it took me a moment to realize. We had gone through this when I lost our baby a few years ago.
For a moment we sat there watching the traffic fly past us but Aiden came to his senses and started the car back up and began to make his way to the commune.
'Do you think Garnet will be okay?' I whispered, fumbling my fingers together.
Aiden didn't answer and just kept driving.

'Isabel!' I screamed and Aiden slammed on the breaks with Isabel standing in front of us with terror filling her face. What was she doing out here? She stumbled over to the car, calling for help and stumbling over. When Aiden got out of the car her expression changed, she went blank.
Aiden went to grab her and she tried to run, screaming for her life. How could she do this to me? She lied about being cleansed, which meant I wasn't a corrector, I wasn't a chosen one, I was nothing. Aiden finally tackled her down and carried her against her will to the car, throwing her in to the back seat. By this time my tears were thundering down my hot flushed face, but they meant nothing to me. I screamed back at her, reaching over and hitting over and over as we both screamed.
'You lied! You're not cleansed! You made a fool of me! How could you? You were chosen Isabel!'
'Get off me you crazy freak! Let me go!'
'You filthy unforgiveable piece of dirt! You are a demon!'
'Please! Stop hitting me! Let me go!'

Aiden drove us closer to the commune just by some woods. I was still hitting and screaming when he pulled in to the woods a little and opened the back door, dragging Isabel out and across the dirt rocks and bark. I didn't feel anything for her anymore, I felt numb from everything. As I got out of the car after grabbing Aiden's blade from the glove box I had finally stopped sobbing enough to see her face turn white with the loss of blood.
As I removed the knife from the side of her neck the red liquid squirted from her like in a horror movie. I felt no remorse this time, and I still felt angry. I gripped the knife tighter before plunging it in her body a further five times.

Okay peoples, I kind of apologize for killing Isabel off, but she wasn't going to be a main character for long, her plan was to die all along!!! Sorry!!! But now Jo is mad, we don't know what's going to happen!
