Hello, and Pain Arc Part 3

Kai pov

Opening my eyes, sitting up immediately soon catching myself gasping for air. I widen my eyes, waking up finding myself in an open field. A peaceful open field..

Pain is gone...

The sky is clear blue...

So this is the after life...

Soon a familiar silhouette appears sitting beneath a tree across from me, smoking a cigarette..

"I can't believe it..."

Asuma..

He turns around, not angry but rather giving me a gentle smile "Kai.. long time no see.."

Freezing up at his response my heart sinks..

"Sensei..." I begin to feel tears slowly falling down my cheeks and I hear a laugh.

"Are you crying-

"Noo!!" I fireback immediately trying to fan myself with my hand trying to dry my tears and he can't help but give a hearty laugh..

"As nice as it is to see you again, it's a little too soon for you to be here Kai.." he says in a serious tone.

"I died..." lowering my head I can remember briefly dying in front of team 10.. and the last person I remember seeing was Shikamaru..

"Well we're going to be here for a while.. wanna start from the beginning?"

Quickly changing the subject, I sigh heavily before nodding.

"Before that.."Asuma pulls another cigarette from his pocket. He holds it out, and I take it.

Night falls in this world and we sit down next to a burning firewood. I tell him everything from the beginning before explaining the last thing that happened to me before death.

My head lowers, "I'm sorry.." he doesn't say anything before he places his hand on my shoulder.

Jumping a little he smiles softly at me "Kai-

"No!!" I push his arm away, standing up "I helped them find you.."

"I stood there.. I didn't stop my brother in time. I-

Flicking my forehead, I find myself caught off guard..

"You need to learn that it's not your fault..."

I widen my eyes before placing my hand on my forehead "sensei.."

He sighed "Kai... did your choices help put events in motion?"

"...Yeah." I say.

My heart sinks at the thought of me pursuing him along with his team.

"But do you know whose decision killed me?" I stared at him.

"...Mine."

"What no how can you say that-

"I was a shinobi every mission ends one of two ways."

"You come home...or you don't" he smiles gently at me.

"I knew that the day I put this vest on" sensei never feared death... he accepted it?

"I'm glad it worked out for you Kai.. because now.."

He placed a hand on my shoulder "people who spend the rest of their lives making up for them..." a small smile returned. "...become shinobi I can be proud of."

"Rest of my 3 months..." I say joking before we sit down again.
