"You said 'fuck you' to Latto?!" Michelle asks, covering Jojo's ears so she doesn't hear the curse word.

I nod, dropping my head in my hands.

"She doesn't even bother anybody." Kelly laughs, stacking a block on Mason's tower. "What were you thinking?"

"I wasn't. I just looked out the window, saw her and blacked out." I tell them.

"And you just left my niece in the house?" Michelle questions.

"Not my finest moment..." I admit. "But you should have seen the look on my son's face. He was terrified of her."

"Thank God Megan was paying attention." Kelly says.

"Actually, Mase was the one looking out for her. Meg told me he pointed her out."

"Good job, Mase!" Kelly smiles giving him a hi five.

"You have the best big brother in the whole world." Michelle tells Jojo.

She just smiles and drools.

I watch Mason quietly build his tower.

He hasn't spoken since everything happened 2 days ago.

He's also been a bit closed off toward me.

I know it's because I lost my composure in front of him and I hate myself for that, but I would beat Caresha's ass all over again if I had a do-over.

Mason makes a sound that lets me know he's scared of something, then he crawls over and hides himself in Kelly's arms.

"What's wrong, baby?" I question.

"I think I know." Michelle says pointing us toward the television.

There's Caresha's mug shot and the caption:

WANTED WOMAN FOUND DEAD, DECAPITATED
Police Identify Victim as Caresha Brownlee • Investigation Ongoing

I grab the remote and quickly turn off the TV.

"Holy shit." I say.

"Holy shit." Michelle echoes.

"It's okay Mase. She's not here and she can't hurt you." Kelly tells Mason.

"Mommy."

That's all Mason says quietly.

"You want Mommy Megan, buddy?" I ask him. She's been his safe space for the past few days.

"Both." He whispers.

"Okay." I say holding out my arms. "Let's go find Mommy Megan."

He climbs into my arms and immediately wraps himself around my neck.
