Chapter 4

We arrived at the restaurant and spent time just getting to know each other. It was perfect. He seemed to know exactly how to make me laugh, blush or both at the same time. As we were eating Luke suddenly walked up to our table.

"Hey Piper, didn't know I'd see you here." He greeted cheerfully.

"Hey Luke, still sore from losing yesterday?" I questioned with a small smirk.

After beating him in the race the other day I made sure to remind him any chance I got.

"Actually I..." He was suddenly cut off with the sound of a throat being cleared.

"Oh Luke, this is Xavier. He's my mate." I said as I linked my hand with Xaviers.

"Nice to meet you." Xavier said as he reached out his free hand to shake. Luke glared at his hand for a second before mumbling something about having to go and rushing out the doors.

"Well that was odd" I thought out loud.

"I dont like him. He looks at you too much." Xavier said as he stared at the doors.

"Dont worry he's just a friend, besides we have gym together so it's not like I could avoid him even if I wanted too."

Xavier simply huffed and paid our check as we got up to leave.

"Would you like to meet my family? I know its sudden but my mom has been very excited for me to find my mate." He asked as we got into my car.

"Um sure" i replied nervously. What if they don't like me? What if they won't allow us to be together because of the law? Almost as if sensing my unanswered questions he cupped my cheeks and said "Don't worry. They will love you and they will understand."

Letting out a breath i didn't know i was holding i drove to his house as he directed me.

Xavier grabbed my hand as we approached the house. As I was about to rethink my idea the door suddenly opened and a dark haired woman appeared with bright green eyes and a welcoming smile.

"Oh my! Is this your mate? Come in come in" she exclaimed as she motioned us inside.

"Would you like anything to eat or drink honey? Your so pretty. You too are going to give me such beautiful grandchildren someday!"

"Mom!" Xavier shouted as my cheeks matched the color of a tomato.

"Oh hush Xavier, i'm simply sharing my thoughts"

I giggled as i spoke up "Its nice to meet you Mrs.Black"

"Call me Julie hun" she said with a warm smile. "So what are you?" she suddenly asked.

I gulped as Xavier shot me an encouraging smile.

"Uh well i'm a panther" I said.

"Wow. Ive never met one but ive heard of them. Its not genetic right?" She asked calmly ignoring the fact that I am not allowed to be with her son by the law.

"Yes its not genetic and very rare to be born one." I answered feeling somewhat proud.

We had been there about an hour when his mom suddenly got up and ran out of the room. I gave Xavier a questioning look but he appeared to be just as lost as I was. When Julie reappeared she was holding a large leather bound book.

"Um sorry mom but we should get going." Xavier suddenly looked like he was on the verge of a panic attack.

"Nonsence. You can leave right after I show Piper some pictures." Julie said as she seated herself on the couch next to me.
