"Whoa so much makeup!" Caley comments. I look down "yeah." I said.
She looked worried suddenly. "What's going on Maya?" She asked. I just shrugged.
"Maya!" She said stopping me with both arms in front of her.
"Cal, will be late for class." I said. She shrugged. "I don't care." She adds.
She takes me by the hand and dragged me to the girls bathroom.
She starts to take off my makeup and gasped. "Maya..."
I didn't look at her. "My life isn't perfect Cal." I whispered.
"Did your mom do that?" She asked touching my bruise.
I didn't say anything. I just looked away. "Maya, what is going on at home!" She asked seriously.
"She got mad because I came home late last night. She yelled and I yelled back... She didn't like that."
Caley's face twisted. "Is this the first time?" She asked. I shook my head.
I rolled up my sleeve. "This isn't the first time either." I told her. She gasped once again.
"Maya..." Tears started running down both of our eyes.
"You have to tell someone! " She said. I took her hand and squeezed it. "No!"
"Maya why?" She asked. "No Cal. Please. Don't tell anyone." I begged her.
She hesitated and then sighed deeply. "Okay. Okay I promise" She told me.
"Thank you." I whispered. She wrapped her arms around me and pulled me in to hug me tightly.
I hugged her back. She takes out her makeup bag and does my makeup.
It was Friday. I was waiting for the day to be over. I went to the library at lunch.
"Psst!" I looked over to the corner. "Hey." He said. I smiled a weak smile. "Hey."
"Mind if I sit?" Drew asked. I shook my head. He sits beside me on the floor in a book aisle.
"What you doing all alone?" He asked. I shrugged. "Just needed time." I told him.
He nodded. "I can go." He said about to get up. "No! Please. Don't go." I said with a shaky voice.
"Maya. What's going on?" He asked me. I felt a lump in my throat. I knew I was about to cry.
I sighed deeply. "Last night I got in trouble for coming home late. My mother shouted at me. And this time I shouted back. She didn't like that. And she-"
I couldn't breath. I whipped my face. His eyes widened. "Maya..." He says worried.
"So yeah, on the outside everyone sees the nerd with a prefect attendance. Prefect grades. Prefect life."
I breathed. "But it's not perfect. Not one bit." I whispered. Tears ran down my face. "Not one bit."
He lifted up my sleeves. I didn't even try to stop him.
I didn't look at him. I couldn't. "Please tell me your not falling for me." I asked him.
He shook his head. "I can't tell you that." He said. I looked at him my eyes shot red.
"Because I am." He adds in softly.
"Drew-" He stopped me. "Maya, just look." He said rolling up his sleeve.
Faded pink scars on his perfect skin. I looked at him in shock. "I'm broken too." He said.
He whips my eyes. Moving the hair out of my face his lips close to mine.
"Can I?" He asked. I nodded. He kissed my lips softly. His lips were so warms and soft.
I'm broken too.
