Luck, I could honestly say was never on my side. I had only gotten a couple steps before I felt a hand on my upper arm dragging me to a stop.

Frowning, I glanced back to find gray eyes staring holes into me.

“It’s really you. How could I not have seen this sooner?” He asked and I tipped my head back to look at him.

“Maybe because you’re a jackass but maybe that’s just me.” I quipped and went to yank my arm back to grab another clear shot.

“Not so fast.” He growled and glared at the offending glass in my hand. “Are you even legal age to drink?” He asked as his narrowed.

“Are you even legal age to drink?” I mocked annoyed and scouted for another tray. “What are you? My father? Even he doesn’t care.” I snapped and glared at him.

“You didn’t answer my question.” He demanded in a low voice.

“That’s because I’m not obliged nor obligated to answer.” I groaned but the more that I argued the more I wanted to be done, “but no. I’m not.” I said softly.

I took another step away from this mammoth of man but his large hand gripped my arm again.

“Look, I’m sorry for your shirt, okay? Now can you just leave me alone? I want to have some fun with my friend before I have to leave.” I muttered and rubbed a hand across my tiered eyes.

“Leave where?” He inquired and I gritted my teeth. This man was not making bailing easy.

“Not that it matters to you but a place far, far away but it’s a surprise. You can’t tell Dania.” I giggled at the last part. The alcohol was finally taking effect and I couldn’t help but laugh at my hidden meanings that no one else would ever get until it was too late.

I may have just had too much to drink but I could have sworn I saw a smile on his face and I was right. He was the most beautiful creature that I had ever witnessed.

“Helios,” I whispered not able to stop the word vomit.

“What did you just say?” He asked and stared at me with hard eyes.

“You remind me of the Greek god Helios when you smile.” I frowned and cringed. “You make me different.” I muttered before I pushed myself into the crowd of dancing couples and followed the blip of red that I knew was Dania. I just wanted to leave now. I heard the man behind me calling me to wait but all I wanted to do was avoid the wave of sadness that was about to threaten me.

“Where the hell have you-“ Dania began as I found her but she stopped when she saw my compromised state and the tall supermodel man following me.

“Can we go? Pwease?” I begged and grabbed onto her arm.

“What are you doing with him, Gabrielle?” Dania asked and stared at the man.

“The jackass spilt coffee on me earlier. He’s just being a little bitch though and won’t get over it.” I narrowed my eyes at him over my shoulder and frowned when I saw the paleness that had taken over Dania’s usually tan skin.

“Roman.” Dania said coldly and tipped my head to peer at her too-old eyes.

“Dania, I should have suspected you’d do something like this.” Roman glared and I saw Dania stare back unflinching.

“She is not yours. Haven’t you taken the hint that she is never going to be yours?” Dania snapped and glared but her face softened. “I understand that it hurts but you have to accept her decision.” Dania pleaded.

“You apparently don’t understand then. I will stop at nothing until she is mine.” Roman took an intimidating step forward and I wanted to cringe for Dania. I opened my mouth to ask what the hell they were talking about until my stomach churned and instead of replying I ran away until I got outside.

I ran to side and into the shadow of the alley before I finally gave into the sick feeling. The vile rose in my throat and braced myself on the building as I retched, regretting slamming all that liquor so quickly but I knew that it was the quick intake of booze. My body was just rejecting everything, the doctor had warned me of this.

Weakly I looked up at the hand that held and napkin to me and I took to wipe my mouth. I raised my head to look at Phoenix and smiled still slightly drunk.

“Have any smokes on you?” I asked as I straightened and accepted the carton he offered and leaned forward to let him light it. “I’m not a light weight.” I said finally as I took the arm he offered as he led me away and to a car that I assumed was his.

“Sure you aren’t.” He said indulgingly. “You’re not going to barf in my car are you?” He asked as he sat me down in the seat.

“Yeah, I’m fine now.” I waited until he slid into the driver’s seat and his head lights illuminated a very pissed off looking Roman before he backed up at an alarming rate and drove off. “But honestly. It’s only because I’m dying.” I said finally and ashed out the window.

“Joking about things like that isn’t funny, Gabrielle.” Phoenix said finally and turned.

“I have terminal cancer.” I said finally and looked down at the burning cherry at the end.

The car was silent until he finally spoke up. “Who knows?” He asked and I saw his grip tighten on the steering wheel.

“You.” I said quietly but my drunk mouth just couldn’t seem to stop talking one it started.

“How far are you?” He asked and pulled the car over.

“The last stage, we didn’t catch it soon enough.” I said evenly before leaning my heavy head on the head rest. He said more but I was to gone and too tiered. Slowly I drifted off into a dreamless slumber and just slept. Cancer could find me when I woke.
