“Uh-Oh.” Dania giggled and clutched her boney arm around my waist. “Night, Mr. Demott’s.” She said as I dragged her after me.

“Night, Dania.” My father called after us.

“Damnit, Damnit, Damnit!” I cursed as I got her into my room.

“I’m sorry, Gab’s.” She laughed and fell onto my bed.

“No, you’re not.” I growled turning back to the door. “Throw you to my mom tomorrow.” I threatened I saw her laughing shoulders stop instantly.

“Nooooo, I swear I’ll behave.” She cried knowingly with what was in store if I didn’t defend her

“Reap what you sow, Darling.” I paused with my hand on the handle. “Take a shower before you go to sleep, I don’t want my bed smelling like a hobo.” I called laughing at her small shriek of anger. She was going to have to deal with the yotch tomorrow with a hangover probably the worst combination on planet earth and she desperately knew that.

I knocked on the door before I entered.

“Dad?” I asked as I peeked in seeing his nose in one of the ledgers on his book shelf, sitting in the big plush leather chair that was behind his mahogany desk.

“Yes, come in.” My dad looked over the rims of his glasses that slipped down to the tip of his nose.  “How was your night out?” He asked as I sat in the stiff backed chair.

“Fine,” I picked at my nails again a nervous habit I had gotten into. “Danced listened to music;” Dodged punches “had a diet coke.” Tried not to get the shit beaten out of me. “Danced some more and left” With a couple hundred dollars in my pocket. I added things silently, not completely lying.

“Well, I’m glad you had fun.” He smiled at me showing a row of straight teeth.

“Yeah,” I sighed “and Daddy?” I asked quietly.

“Yes, pumpkin?” His gold eyes looked at me again, the eyes that stared at me now were almost the color of my gold ones. I hesitated about to ask if I could skip out on the wedding but I knew that I had to go, to prove to my families friends that I was the amazing daughter of the  Demotts like everyone was told instead I opted out.

“I love you.” I said with a sheepish grin.

“I love you to.” He smiled back and we talked for a while longer about how gymnastics was going and how work was going.

I laughed at something my dad had said and I pushed up my sleeves.

“What happened to your knuckles?” My dad asked, catching me off.

“What?” I asked leaning away from the light.

“And your cheek?” My dad stood up and came around the large desk and he gently but firmly took my chin in his large hands bringing my face into the light.

“I fell off the bars and hit the matt and bars pretty hard.” I pulled my head out of his grasp. “Come on father, I come home with stuff like this all the time.” I rubbed my sore jaw but instead he took my hand and grasped it in his. I hadn’t noticed how nasty it looked, it looked infected.
