|1| Why We Think We're Good Writers?

Like I said before, there are a lot of reasons why we think we're good writers.

Maybe because a teacher told us at one point in our lives, or we truly feel as though we are.

But that's not the biggest reason.

The biggest reason why is because we get coddled. Which is just a nicer way of saying BS'd.

The Wattpad community is usually a friendly community, and they don't want to tell someone that their book(s) sucks.

I don't want to tell someone that their book(s) sucks. Even though they do.

Why?

Because it's rude. You can't insult someone like that. That's why I'm writing this to help people indirectly.

Okay, back to being coddled.

Here's what some comments on a bad book looks like:

OMG, I loved it so much, update soon.

This was amazing.

I love it.

Now that isn't always the case, because people comment these things on good books too. But more times than not, it just means your book sucks.

And that's because the comments lack depth.

For example. Here's what a comment on a well-written book should look like:

I really liked how you had Roman confront Dean, because I think it's going to cause some drama in the next few chapters and I can't wait. Great job.

It's got depth, and none of that idiotic OMG crap in it. I'll admit, I'll say OMG. But only if the book is flat out amazing.

So how can you stop yourself from being coddled?

Think about real feedback you want to receive, and if that's not it, then you aren't doing something right. Or the people are blind, which I will bring up in another tip down the road.

To Suck

Being coddled by people who don't know good writing. You need to find some real authors and ask what they think (I'll touch on feedback)

Not To Suck

Knowing what type of feedback to want and expect. Detailed ones are what make an author happy, and are what you should look for.
