Okay, we've all at least read one of those books that talk about dumb moments in fan fictions, right?

One of their main problems seem to be how the period does not exist.

Here's a question for you all: does the author ignore the period because the female character is living in a magical universe, where the period doesn't exist or did they leave it out because writing about it is unnecessary and unattractive?

It's the latter.

Writing about having your period is like writing about you having to breathe. It's redundant.

There is absolutely no way a woman can forget their period. No way.

And honestly, do you want to read about it?

I read a chapter of a fanfic once where (if the author is reading this, sorry in advance) the author had the MC talk about how she had cramps and then she went to the the bathroom and proceeded to describe how she changed her pad.

I literally almost gagged. That's not something I want to read about.

Listen y'all, if you read one of those books that discourages writers who don't write the period into the story, don't let it discourage you.

The only time the period should be mentioned is if you're guessing you're pregnant because you're a few weeks late or it just very briefly comes up in a conversation.

Other than that, please don't go out of your way to bring her period into the story.

Think about it. How many YA authors have you seen do this?

To Suck

Writing about the period. It's disgusting and has no reason to be in the story. It's not a flipping character.

Not To Suck

Focus on the story, don't let anyone make you feel like your story is stupid, and then go add irrelevant facts into it. Just don't.
