Seriously people. Are you?
Have you never once read a YA Novel in your lifetime?
The Fault in Our Stars by John Green?
Breathe by Abbi Glines?
Eleanor and Park by Rainbow Rowell?
Catching Jordan by Miranda Kenneally?
Even freaking Twilight by Stephanie Meyer?
If so, then you know what a good book is, don't you? Or at least decent, in this case. Even though I've never liked Twilight, I have to admit it has more readabily than a lot of books on here.
It really bothers me when people write a really, really, bad chapter/story, and then people praise it like they've never read a real story ever?
Listen to this:
OMG, when I saw him I thought he was so cute, and I really needed to go talk to him and ask him out.
So I walked up to him. "Hey Jon, you are so hot like, do you totally want to date me?"
He looked me up and down and then with no expression whatsoever said, "Nope."
I started crying and ran and hid behind an equipment box.
My life was over.
You know how many comments/votes that one chapter will get? 30. Each.
Now listen to this:
Jon walked down the hall, brushing past her quickly, his shoulder knocked against her's softly. He mumbled an "excuse me", and nothing more as she watched him walk away, not even giving her a second glance.
For as long as she could remember, she had been drawn to him, but she was never truly aware of what his feelings were for her.
For he was a closed book, and merely thinking about getting to know him felt like a possibility light years away.
She knew she should give up her hope that he would notice her, and pursue someone else, but there was a mystery about Jon that she couldn't put her finger on.
He was an enigma. One that left her in a state of confusion every time they crossed paths.
He was a 1,000 piece jig-saw puzzle, that she wanted so badly to piece together.
He was a paradox. A man so listlessly beautiful, yet breathlessly appalling.
He was everything at once, and nothing at all, but still...she cared.
She cared enough to push the envelope, and strike up a conversation with him, hoping maybe, just maybe, one day he would feel the same.
Maybe, just maybe, he would finally notice the girl who didn't think of him as a "lunatic".
Or maybe, just maybe...he would care.
Now how many comments/votes do you think that will receive? 3. Each.
I don't want to brag, but I thought that was pretty good. So, is it just me that knows good writing, or have I been sheltered from what other people assume to be good writing but I assume it to be bad?
I'm not sure, but either way, the second one just sounds better. And do you know what that means?
It is better, and people need to see that. You need to.
I'm not saying go write a book like that and take my example, I'm saying know the difference.
To Suck
Writing a book that doesn't make sense to half the world, but still managing to weasel your way into who people consider a good author.
Not To Suck
Having a great book, knowing you have a great book, and knowing that despite the number of comments or votes you have, it's still amazing. Don't let anyone dull your sparkle.
