I burst into my apartment and run all mover the place, hoping that my mom is home. No luck. I make COMPLETELY sure that NOBODY is in the house. Yeah. Keith. But luckily, nothing in the house is moving. Nobody's home. I can finally practice in peace!
In my room, I take the script Mr. Stevens gave me. It's just a bunch of songs that everyone has to sing, like "Look Down." It looks pretty interesting.
I practice for a bit, then go on YouTube and watch the movie (it was 3 fucking hours long!) and read part of the really, really, really fat book that I'd scoured my dad's bookshelves for. I need to decide who I wanna be. I'm leaning towards Fantine or Eponine, since they're brunette and Cosette is a blonde. Of course, Brianna's gonna get that part.
Keith comes home when I'm watching the movie, Mom comes home when I'm reading the book, and Dad comes home after I finished.
"Ever since I came home, you've been in your room," Keith comments. I look at him and sigh. I still remember that Day.
"I'm practicing for the musical," I explain, huffing. "You know, getting to know the characters and deciding which one I wanna be."
"Oh, my God," Mom breathes excitedly. "You're in the play?" She glances at Dad, smiling. He smiles back.
"Yup," I answer proudly. "The drama director was very impressed with my voice." I grin smugly at her. I CAN sing, Mom, you've just never heard me.
"You sing, Evelyn?!" Mom exclaims. "Why didn't you ever tell me?" I roll my eyes inwardly. Because you wouldn't care, duh. I've been thinking about it all my life.
"This is wonderful, honey," Dad says. "Who're you being?"
"I don't know yet," I admit. "Maybe Fantine or Eponine. You know, since I'm a brunette." Dad snorts loudly and unattractively. I raise an eyebrow. "What's so funny?"
"You don't have to judge by hair color, dear." Mom says for him, smiling humorously herself. "Be who you want, I'm sure it doesn't matter."
"Oh," I say, embarrassed. "Well, uh, I think I wanna be one of them, anyway." Both characters are really interesting. Fantine has a baby and she's poor and she gave the baby away to this mean family. The baby is Cosette. Then Fantine gets kicked out of her job and goes to this town and sells her hair, some teeth, and becomes a prostitute. Ew. But I don't think they're gonna include that part in the play at school.
So then this guy named Jean Valjean saves her and then she's in the hospital and dies. That's it. For the rest of it, she's not there, until the end she comes as an angel.
Eponine is in the middle part. She's the daughter of the people who Fantine gave Cosette to. Eponine is sad because her crush is seriously in love with Cosette and Cosette's in love with him. His name is Marius.
Eponine sings songs, then she fights in a war, and dies. Really. Marius kisses her temple and she dies. Sad. Either way, I'm gonna have to have a cool death scene, even though Fantine's is just dying in a bed. Or maybe I could be the evil mother (Madame Thenardier) who housed Cosette. Hmm.

Two days later, at the drama place, Mr. Stevens asks everyone who they want to be. You have to choose four choices and sing the song of your first choice and see if you get that part. If not, you get one of your other choices.
My list is:
1) Eponine
2) Fantine
3) Madame Thenardier
4) Cosette
I'll probably get my second or third choice. Brianna probably chose Cosette, since Cosette has the most interesting life and gets to kiss Marius a lot.
"Alright, hand in your lists," Mr. Stevens orders, walking around and collecting the slips of paper. He sees my first choice and looks a bit disappointed, but moves on without a word. Yup, he doesn't want me to be Eponine, and he's gonna make my Fantine.
"Anna Abbot," he says and a girl with reddish-blonde pigtails stands up and follows him into the little soundproof room at the back of the auditorium for her try-out thingie.
Everyone waits and waits. I'm the fourth-to-last one, so I have to wait for an especially long time.
"Brianna Stai," Mr. Stevens calls, and Brianna steps up, looking more nervous than I've ever seen her. When she comes back a few minutes later, she's smiling, so I'm supposing it went well.
"Evelyn Thorn."
