I awoke finding myself that I was alone. No sign of Mick anywhere. It was dead silence. I slowly sat up and took the glass of water Mick had set there for me. I downed it in a matter of seconds. It wasn't as cold as before when I first tasted it, but it was cold enough. I sat the glass back on the coffee table, lay Mick's jacket on the couch arm and got up slowly from the couch. Mick's door to his office was shut. I decided to take a little walk to his office and see if he was there. I got close to it and I could hear Mick and some other guys talking amongst themselves. Then they hushed. I leaned on the nearest end table when I heard the door open. Mick came strutting out to my aid.
"What are you doing up? You should be taking it easy."
He said, coming and putting his arm around my waist to hold me up to regain the strength in my footing.
"I didn't know where you were and I started to get worried that something might have happened."
I looked and saw two other guys standing in the doorway to Mick's office. One was dressed in a full suit the other casual.
"Uh, Emily, this is my associate, Josef Kostan."
He smiled and we shook hands.
"Nice to meet you Ms. Turner."
"To you as well."
"And this is Ryder England. Josef's new valet."
"Mick spoke highly of you, Ms. Turner."
He said exchanging handshakes.
I smiled and glanced at Mick.
"Well, we should get going."
Josef said, glancing at me, back to Mick and Ryder. Josef and Ryder left and Mick walked me back to the couch and sat beside me.
"How are you feeling?"
"I don't know to be honest. I feel absolutely horrible."
Mick chuckled.
"Do you want me to fix you something to eat?"
"No, I'm fine."
"You should at least eat something Em."
"I have a few things in my bag. Snack bars."
Mick got up, headed into the kitchen and came back with my bag and handed it to me. I picked out two snack bars and a protein shake to both help maintain my weight balance and fibers. Mick just looked at me when I downed the first bar. I continued eating the second along with drinking my shake. I was full.
"Feel any better?"
"Not really."
I yawned.
"You should get some rest."
"No. Those nightmares will haunt me again. And the last time I had a nightmare, it was too vivid and I had a flashback to it and I passed out and my brother caught me. In fact, I was on the stairs when it happened."
"Wow. If he wouldn't have caught you would have been severely injured."
"Yeah. I was fortunate enough that he was there when he was."
I started to drift away a bit. I felt Mick's arm around my shoulders and he pulled me close to him and before I know it, my head was laying on his shoulders, slipping away into my dreams.
*4 hours passes**
Four hours passes and I find myself laying with Mick on the couch. His arms completely wrapped around my waist with his long coat covering us both. My head was laying to were I could hear his heartbeat. His head was slightly turned to the right. I was laying halfway on my side. My left hand was on his chest. No nightmares. It was a good dream for once. With his touch and his embrace, I felt safe for the very first time. I haven't felt safe for 20 years and now I find myself laying with the man of my dreams that saved me. I closed my eyes with a smile on my face and drifted back off again. I found my guardian angel.
I lost track of time and I woke up. Mick was gone again, but the smell of coffee filled my nose with delight. I heard footsteps come from the kitchen and into the living room. I sat up and Mick came with a cup of coffee for me again and handed it to me. I took the offer and began to sip from the glass.
He smiled.
"So, do you remember anything from last night?"
He asked me if I remembered anything from last night. How could I not?
"I remember waking up laying on top of you with your arms around me."
I said smiling.
He had a smile on his face and a gleam in those bright hazely blue eyes that I was mesmerized by and mesmerized by his charming good looks.
He looked at me smiling.
"You said you couldn't sleep because of those nightmares that haunt you, so I tried a different method. And before I know it, you were sleeping like a rock. Dead to the world. I figured that if I do this more often, those nightmare would eventually stop."
"Maybe. What time is it anyway?"
"It's early."
I yawned once more.
"You're still tired?"
"Just a bit. It's been a long time since I had a decent nights sleep. I was kidnapped when I was four. Taken from my family by some woman. Then some guy comes in and saves me. Takes me back to my mom and dad. But the thing is, I don't remember my mom and dad."
Mick stayed quiet and glared at me. That night came back to me. I remembered every detail and I froze, staring at the coffee table. I heard Mick's voice, but it was muffled. Then I felt a shake and hands on my face, him moving my eyes to his. I suddenly snapped out of it.
"EM!"
I felt his hands wiping tears away I never knew that was running down my cheeks.
"It's okay. It's all right."
He kissed me on my forehead and pulled me closer to him, his right hand on my cheek and his left arm around my side. He kept me close to his heart. I felt his chin on my head. His heartbeat was all I wanted to hear.
