---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Captured Chapter Sixteen
Avaele and Christopher had gotten to the opening, and started a fire. Christopher had found another sleeping bag and laid the two out, side by side. "Okay, here's the map and this is the route we are traveling on. We are here." Christopher explained, pointing at the different spots on the map. "We are only half way there!" Avaele complained. She was tired of walking everywhere. Christopher sighed and put his arm around her. They both stared at the fire, as they did before. It had become a habit for the both of them.
"It will be okay. We'll be there in no time." Christopher said. He didn't know why, but the thought hurt him, and it hurt Avaele too. She didn't want to go to Soleil. She didn't want to go home and never see Christopher again.
They sat by the fire, getting sleepier and sleepier. Christopher yawned, and crawled into his sleeping bag. "Go to bed." he ordered. 'someone's gettin grumpy.' Avaele thought, smirking. She crawled into her sleeping bag.
Avaele closed her eyes, and began to dream...
She was holding Christopher's hand, laughing and smiling. It was all in slow motion, which only made it better. Suddenly, instead of happy music playing in the background, it turned to suspense and horror music. Avaele was pulled away by an invisible force, not being able to talk or scream. Christopher was shoved to the ground by a dark shadow, not even trying to fight back. He was soon surrounded by many more of them. They grabbed Christopher, kicking and punching him. Avaele tried to look away or close her eyes, but she couldn't move. She couldn't scream, she couldn't cry. She was locked there by the invisible force, screaming and crying on the inside, watching the shadows kick the life out of Christopher. The shadows finally stopped, stalking out into the now dark and stormy night. Relief flooded through Avaele, thankful that the shadows had stopped. Christopher turned his face towards her, sorrow and sympathy in his eyes, knowing what was going to happen next. Aevale then knew her dream wasn't over; she still couldn't move. Suddenly a huge mountain lion came running towards them. It was huge, with red eyes, rows and rows of teeth, and claws that could cut you if you just touched them. It circled around Avaele, her fear was too much to explain. It rubbed against her legs and put its nose on her foot, teasing her as if to say, 'your next'. It turned away from her, and snapped its glowing, red eyes to Christopher. It circled around Christopher, roaring and hissing. Avaele just watched. The lion growled one last time, before pouncing on Christopher.
Avaele snapped up in her sleeping bag, yelling "NO!", tears streaming down her face. She breathed heavily, and pulled her legs to her, hugging them.
Christopher woke up, and stumbled over to Avaele. "What's wrong? Are you okay?" he asked, pulling her to him. Avaele snuggled closer to him, stuttering, "you...the-the shadows, I couldn't move, and the.." She clutched onto him, drenching his shirt with her tears. Christopher held her tighter, kissing the top of her head.
"Shh, It's okay, it was only a dream." he said quietly, comfoting her. "Let's go back to sleep." Avaele sniffed, wiping away a tear, and nodded. She crawled into Christopher's sleeping bag, next to him, two inches away from eachother.
Avaele tried to sleep, but she couldn't. She heard a rustle and snapped her eyes to where it came from, imagining what kind of horrible creature could come out. "Christopher!" she hissed. He groaned," it's just a squirrel." To Avaele's suprise, it actually was a squirrel.
Still noticing how tense she was, Christopher sighed and draped his arm over her. Avaele immediately relaxed, realizing that she was safe.
In the morning, Christopher woke up to what he thought was a horse. He opened his eyes and looked around. "Oh no." he mumbled. He looked around at Avaele, wondering frantically what to do.
