Chapter 1 - Eternal Ice

Act 1 - Demi God of the Cold

My name... Is Snow Kryo. Possibly. These past years have all been rather boring. Quite a few years ago, something weird happened which wiped out my past memories. They have been returning, slowly but surely, but I can still barely remember anything, except that I'm childhood friends with Ishi Mortare.

I've only lived this long since my powers make me like a Demi-God. One person is in charge of reaping people's souls and bringing them to either Heaven or Hell, but those strong enough can challenge this person and defy death. If someone else kills you at any point of time, however, your soul lingers around your body and can't move very far. Eternally filled with regret and sorrow, you'll never be able to rest in peace unless someone revives you. If your body rots, however, you are doomed to eternal suffering.

Some say there is only one reviver on Verium: Ishi. I suspect that he made up his own name too, since his surname comes from the Latin of "undo" and "death". It could have been better, but surnames aren't even important anyway.

I have full control over the temperature of everything and, though I only suspect this is true and have never tried it before, can speed up the rate at which an object changes form. I mainly use this for changing the air around me into ice, though. It's rather fun.

I also have minor Telekinesis, but my main ability tends to overshadow it. Moving items with barely any effort is fairly useful, admittedly.

From the little memories I have regained, I can remember that I was an orphan, yet had a brother and sister at the same time. It's not like that isn't plausible, though. I think my parents died trying to rid our small village of... Some species of monster. They must have been successful if I'm still alive to this day.

Magic and powers weren't unheard of last time. Just seldom seen. Apparently, my family had such powers in their veins from the start, leading me to wonder if I really had gained anything when The Change occurred.

Ishi was in the same orphanage as me and, aside from my siblings, became the only friend I had over time. It was always a platonic relationship, and will probably remain that way.

I vaguely remember my brother dying at some point, saving my sister in the process... From a vehicle? Something along the lines of that. One of my foggier memories, since I also vaguely remember both of them being alive in future events.

Speaking of future events, what confuses me the most is that I distinctly remember getting fatally injured at some point, but I don't have the faintest idea how I healed from it. If my memory serves me right, I had either been stabbed extremely near the heart or in the heart itself.

I highly doubt Ishi had anything to do with it. I simply can't understand what happened.

It may be that the old Earth had some weird conditions where you could get yourself revived under. Unless I fully get back my memories, I'll never really know for sure.

Goodness, the past gives me a headache. It's not like I'm the one who had some weird time ability. Events are never linear and will always be confusing, so I should avoid thinking about it.

Speaking of the guy with the weird time ability... My memories of him seem to be foggy too, other than he resembles the King.

I dare say he is the King, even. I do wish that I remembered more of him and why he's so confusing.

Since my memories started coming back, weirder events have started occurring, in stark contrast to how peaceful it was earlier. Though Ishi and I live in a rather deserted area, the rare times when we travel outside lead our ears to the buzz of townsfolk going on and on about some "Masked Entity" raining destruction on a village dangerously close to the King's castle. Some suspect the Masked Entity will even launch an attack on the King himself.

Something tells me that's unlikely, though.

Ishi plans to go to that village to try and help families which aren't completely dead. He would revive everyone if he could, though. Reviving anyone uses up his... Life force? Soul? It certainly can kill him, that's for sure.

Or at least, it's likely that his ability can kill him. It's too strong, and he has felt weaker after reviving in the past.

"In the past" as in before The Change. There has been no actual need to revive people until now.

Ishi's only power is reviving, has no fighting ability whatsoever and is, of course, unable to revive himself, making him a sitting duck. It's as if the roles of normal fairy tale characters apply to us if reversed, with Ishi being the "damsel" needing help and... Me being the "knight", I suppose. Suddenly appearing ice shards do make good weapons, after all. Not only do they have the element of ice, but they can also carry the element of surprise.

Back onto the topic of the Masked Entity, the townsfolk say that he, or maybe she, possesses the Allimaschi, something along the lines of "changing shape thing". According to them, this black and turquoise weapon is able to... Well, change it's shape.

I almost wonder why the villagers know so much about

There are only two such shapeshifting weapons in the world, and the other is rumored to be with the King.

If the King really is the guy from my memories, then he wields the Butterfly gem, able to morph into any weapon as long as it stems from the reddish pink jewel, or as long as the jewel is part of the weapon. It is also able to summon butterflies which can sabotage someone.

Unless it's a different person, of course.

The King has no need to resort to any sort of violence, and even if he did attack someone, it would cause a great uproar, which no one would want.

I almost wonder what'll happen in the village. With any luck, the Masked Entity won't be there and Ishi will be able to revive as many of the fallen as possible.

Luck is something you can't depend on, however.

(A/N: HELLO THERE AND WELCOME TO SNOWSTORM uh i mean

My chapters will be in a chapter/act sequence, so the next 'chapter' will actually be Chapter 1 Act 2. Yep. Just wanted to clear that confusion.)
