It was almost six o’clock in the evening when Sam and I were in my apartment and were fixing ourselves for the dinner. I was just fixing my tie in front of the mirror and Sam was trying to wear her heels. I was wearing my black slacks, black jacket and black shiny shoes. I had just combed my hair to make me look sharp. Sam had just finished struggling with her heels when I walked to the bedroom to her. She was wearing a black dress that made her look gorgeous. Her hair was already dry from the shower and all curled up.
“Hey.” I said. She turned to me and smiled. “You ready?”
“Yup,” she was smudging her lips to spread the lipstick. “I’m all done. You?”
“I’m good.” I smiled back. She gazed me back with a seductive smile. I knew it was just a joke. We’re not supposed to make love again when we were about to leave. I raised a brow and she chuckled.
“What are you trying to do?” she asked. “I mean why are you looking at me like that?”
“You’re beautiful.”
“Besides that,” she laughed. “Are you coming at me? This isn’t really a good time.”
“I know.” I walked to her and held the back of her waist as soon as I got to her. She laid her arms on my shoulders and went up to kiss me. She touched her lips with mine, and we kissed. She bent away and smiled, and my lips were still searching for her before I realized. “I’m sorry I kissed you so early,” I added and laughed.
“What? Is there supposed to be a schedule for us to kiss?”
“Nope.” I kidded. “But this is a date so we shouldn’t kiss when we haven’t even gone to dinner yet.”
“Well, I wanted to kiss you,” she kidded. “Am I now not allowed to do that?”
“You’re allowed since you’re my girlfriend.” I laughed.
She suddenly went silent. Her eyes glued with mine. Her smile went down; she was still smiling, but her smile kind of went lowered. I started to worry again. Maybe I shouldn’t have said that. I wasn’t really sure if she was my girlfriend.
“I’m sorry.” I responded quickly. My intention of proposing to her that night weakened. “I shouldn’t have said that. We’re not together, then?”
“I didn’t say that.” She waved her head and stepped back from me. “I was just surprised.”
“No, I’m sorry.” I let go of her waist. “I shouldn’t have assumed. I just slept with you; maybe that doesn’t really mean-”
“I want to.” She interrupted me. “Can I?”
“Of course!” I smiled and exclaimed. “Why would I want to reject the girl I love?”
“That’s sweet.” She kidded and smiled again. Somehow, that made me feel a lot better.
“So, you’re my girlfriend?” I said with excitement in my voice.
“I’m not telling.” She smiled and waved her head again. “Make tonight something special and I’ll say yes.”
I chuckled and closed my eyes for a moment, smiling in confidence. Once I opened my eyes, I bent to her and said: “That’s not a problem.”
“Okay.” She smiled back. “I’m glad.”
Finally, I stood normally again. It didn’t seem like we had anything else to say to each other before we hit the road. So, I thought we should proceed. “Okay, we should get going.” I said.
“All right.” She agreed as I reached and held her hand. “Surprise me, okay?”
“Will do, ma’am.” I walked her out of the apartment. I locked the door when we got out, and we continued outside.
