The next day, I got to school just in time for our first period. Our first teacher was absent, so it’s basically free time. It could have been fun but Sebastian wasn’t around. I never thought he’d be absent. So, I just sat down and wondered. I thought I should talk to Sam. But I think it’d be so weird for me to talk to her when I haven’t really talked to her for years since yesterday. And because Sebastian wasn’t there, I really didn’t think I’d have the courage. So, I sat for a whole hour. It wasn’t that hard, waiting for an hour especially because I’m bugged by our kiss yesterday. This creepy feeling of nervousness crawled in my body. I wanted that feeling to stop. But it made time go faster. Thank God, Sebastian got to school right after first period when we were just heading for English class. It was surprising that Sebastian didn’t talk about how yesterday went. I thought he wanted to help me. Or maybe he’s just not in the mood to talk about. But he looks how he normally was. But, still, this was a pretty unusual for me. The school bell was ringing and all of the students were headed to their destined rooms.

Me and Sebastian were walking with our other classmates. “Man… It’s like you were expecting our teacher to be absent today.” I said, scratching my back. He remained silent like his answer was yes. “Did you know?” I asked.

“Yeah… I was asking Deolar yesterday,” he said, smiling.

      “So what happened?”

      “She’s sick,”

      “Oh…” I said and sighed.

Sebastian went silent for a moment. It was unusual for me, so I guess I’d better ask him. But I didn’t want him to ask about yesterday. “You okay, man?”

      “Yeah… Why?”

      “You’re quiet, man.”

He chuckled and walked faster than me, passing me by. “You’re starting to talk deep shit again.” he said.

That got me wondering for a moment there. Maybe I was talking deep shit again. I just continued to walk until we got to English class.

As we were all settled and seated. The teacher started talking. But I remembered quite sure that I wasn’t listening. Sebastian was sitting next to me, but we haven’t said a word to each other since English class started. I didn’t really notice that because I was busy, looking at Sam. She seemed peacefully seated in front. Her hands were placed on her desk. Her hair was pony-tailed that day. When I look at her, it feels like sunset at the park with her. I remember back when Sam and I climbed this big broadleaf tree during a summer afternoon. Its leaves were starting to turn red for autumn. The summer breeze felt warm. I felt real peace that time. I couldn’t do anything but smile because Sam was with me. Her hair was also pony-tailed that afternoon. She talked about how great the grasses under the tree would all sway in the same direction. She walked and balanced herself to one of those branches and held to others. I was busy with the great breeze and the falling leaves when she suddenly slipped and fell down. She landed on the grass and fell unconscious. I yelled and went down as fast as I could. As I got down, I tended to her. I shook her body and tried to wake her up. But she wouldn’t even budge. I started to worry. I was about to run and call for help but she went up and laughed. She was just joking about it. She was surprisingly fine. She stood up and laughed at me while I was still in shock. I was just glad she’s fine and smiled. I smiled, remembering all of those nostalgic memories. That was until our English teacher noticed I was smiling at nothing.

“Mr. Colin,” she called to me, catching all of our attentions.

I looked back at her. “I’m sorry, what?” I asked, still shocked.
