The next day, I woke up and sat on my bed. I hugged my legs and had a few seconds of thoughts. I grabbed my phone from the floor and had a short look. I saw that there were five missed calls from Jake. I felt excited. He wanted to talk to me. But I doubt it he called because he missed me. I went up and called Jake back. It took a few seconds for him to answer, but he did.

“Hello?” Jake answered the call with a voice that guaranteed me that he had just woken up.

“I’m sorry, Jake,” I said. “Did I just wake you?”

“Sam!” he sounded surprised and excited. Sounds came from his phone that he stood up. “No, it’s fine. I’m awake.”

“Really?” I laughed. “You sounded like you just got up.”

“You do too.”

“Yeah,” I continued laughing. “I was just wondering why you called five times last night?”

“Is it not allowed?” he laughed.

“True.” I joined his laughter. “So why did you call?”

“Well, I just wanted to check up on you.”

“Thanks,” I chuckled. “That’s nice of you.”

“No,” he said. “I wanted to ask you something, too.”

“Yeah?” I started to walk to the bathroom. “What’s that?”

“Are you free tonight?”

“Huh?” I stopped walking. “Are you asking me on a date, Jake?”

“Not really,” he said. “It’s not a date. I just got free tickets for the carnival today. I just thought that I shouldn’t let these tickets go to waste.”

“Okay?” I said. “But why did you choose me for this? You probably have so many other friends out there, right?”

“Not all of them are free,” he said. “And not all of them like carnivals.”

“And you think I do?” I chuckled.

“I think?” he laughed. “I really do think you do.”

“Well, you’re right.” I laughed. “I do like carnivals.”

“So, is it a yes?”

“Yes,” I smiled. “I’ll go with you.”

“Great!” he exclaimed. “I’ll pick you up by two o’clock?”

“Sure,” I chuckled, filled with happiness and excitement. “Thanks, Jake.”

“That’s okay,” he said. “Maybe you can use the fun for your book.”

“Okay.” I laughed.

“I’ll see you later, then.”

“I’ll see you soon.” I hung up, he probably did too.

From that moment, I had confusions. If it wasn’t a date, why did he ask a girl? And of all his friends, why did he ask me. Is it maybe because I told him that I fell for him? Or maybe he just thought I’d be the easiest to ask and never really sees me as someone special to him? I wanted to ask him these things right away. But that would have to wait up until I meet him.

Later, Jake arrived just about time. I had just finished my hair and my clothes. I wore heels, a black skirt, a black shirt and a brown jacket. I looked down from the window and I saw Jake, entering the hotel. I felt really excited and nervous, both at the same time. I was sweating a bit but I felt cold. I told my mind that I should always put up a smile. It didn’t take long for Jake to get to my room and knock to my door. I took my bag and hung it on my shoulder. I opened the door and slowly saw Jake. I saw him smiling that really made my day. If he was excited, I really was too.
