It was a Sunday afternoon when I thought I’d visit a baseball field which was the first one I’ve seen in the map. The field wasn’t government property. A rich guy owns it. Rumors say that the owner was a drug dealer. But I have no right to judge a person like that. I was walking down beside a bridge where cars kept on passing. I went further and got about fifty feet from the field. There was a small rectangular garden nearby. I walked to it and saw sunflowers planted all over it. I spaced myself out, staring at the beautiful buds. The wind stroke and my hair swayed as the sunflowers did. That was when I saw a guy in a leather jacket, lying down and looking at the sky. It was about two o’clock in the afternoon. I thought doing something like that would be fun. So, I walked past the white wood fences and found an opening to the garden. I slowly walked to the guy, avoiding the sunflowers from being crushed by my steps. He didn’t notice me even when I got nearer to him. He was smiling at the sky while his eyes are closed. I walked to him. I probably blocked the sunlight that was heating him, that’s why his eyes opened. He couldn’t recognize me because of the bright sun. I crouched down and he got a clearer vision of me. He suddenly seemed shocked to see my face. He stood up quickly and stared.
“I’m sorry, sir,” I said. “I didn’t mean to scare you.”
He was totally shocked and I had no idea why. He licked his lips and began to talk.
“Oh my God.” he said.
“What’s wrong, sir?” I really had no idea why he acted like that. “I’m sorry to barge in like this. Is this your garden?”
He nodded, still shocked. “Yes….”
“I’m sorry,” I started to turn and leave. “I shouldn’t have entered. Is that allowed?”
“No, no, no, no!” he stopped me. “It’s not forbidden… It’s fine.”
He was talking like he knew me. But it came to me in a good way. I had amnesia, so I probably have met him before, but they told me I was in Paris my whole life. Even my documents say that. Unless he’s someone who has been in Paris.
“Really, I can?” I smiled. “Thanks. It’s really beautiful here.”
“Thanks,” he smiled back. “I worked on this.”
“You worked at this all by yourself?”
“Not exactly, of course,” he chuckled. “I hired some people but mostly done by me.”
“Oh!” I nodded. “What made you do this garden?”
He stared at me and smiled. “It’s for someone special.”
“Oh!” I said again, but I kind of blushed. But it wasn’t because I thought it was for me. That was just something sweet for a guy to say. “I hope she appreciates this. It’s really great here.”
“Thanks,” he kept on smiling, still seemed a bit shocked. He offered me his hand I shook it.
“Jake.” he introduced.
“Samantha,” I said. “You can call me Sam.”
He still seemed shocked but satisfied. He smiled as we let go of our hands. I took a step away from him.
“So,” I started a conversation. “If it’s not too much, can you tell me who that special person is?”
“No,” he chuckled. “I’m sorry, Sam. It’s not really o----”
