The plane had just left when I took some steps to the glass window and had a last look of goodbye for Sam. I stood there up until there was nothing more to say goodbye to. The plane was completely out of my sight. A sudden feeling of sadness came to my heart. I felt the urge to have Sam in my life again. I held the glass and pressed my forehead on it. I took a breath and blew it on the window. Fog started to form as I slid my finger down and carved ‘Sam’ on the fog. I was planning on leaving when I felt my phone vibrate in my pocket. I rushed to reach for my phone out. I felt excitement on the first few seconds because I thought Sam was the one who called, but I realized they weren’t allowed to call during the flight. I pressed the phone to my ear and answered the phone. When the killer greeted, I recognized the voice immediately. It was Sebastian.
“Hey, man,” I greeted back and turned around from the glass window. “What’s up?”
“Did I miss the flight?” he asked from the phone.
“Yeah,” I sniffed. “She left already.”
In the end, Sebastian asked me to have coffee with him the same place I took Sam when she came back. Of course, I agreed. There wasn’t much to do that day anyways. I took another day off. I’m sure it’ll be fine. And my boss will probably doubt about my promotion now that I’ve left for two days from work. I thought about too much that I never really thought of how excited I should be to see Sebastian again. He hasn’t come back in town for two months because he had a very long honeymoon with his wife, Lisa. They have a really great marriage. They’re sweet, confident, determined and inspired. I sort of felt that moment of envy. And I could hear that sad piano music in my head again. He’s very lucky that Lisa is always free with him, her parents aren’t strict. I don’t really blame them, but they sure make their daughter very sad.
Later, Sebastian and I were already settled in the coffee shop. The café unusually had a few customers. There were probably about ten people, including me and Sebastian. I was observing Sebastian as he told stories about their honeymoon. He looked the same as the last time I saw him: he still had glasses, his hair was still wavy and his face was still a bit pale.
“So how are you, Jake?” he asked as he took a small sip from his hot mug.
“I’m fine,” I laid my arms and chest on the table. “It’s just that Sam is gone now.”
“I thought she’ll be coming back?”
“She will,” I said. “Just not for the next five months.”
“Well, what’s the problem with that?” he asked.
“It’s five months, dude,” I pressed my face on my arms. “I can’t wait that long.”
“It’s just five months, dude!” he pointed. “That’s not even long!”
“What, you’ve been through what I am going through?” I said with a robot voice.
“Yes, I have, dude.”
“Really?” I said with a sarcastic voice as I went up to sit properly. “I believe you never really got serious with a girl until your wife. And I never saw you actually missed Lisa when you two get apart.”
“That’s because I do miss her when we’re apart,” he said. “It’s just that I pride myself in not talking deep shit as you, like what you’re doing now.”
