(Hey! Small note, I added a song to the last chapter. Feel free to check it out if you want, I just thought I'd let you all know :) Also this chapter takes place at the same time the last did. The only difference is that this is from Dirk's point of view. I thought it would be relatively interesting to see his thoughts and feelings during this whole fiasco. I hope you enjoy it!)
Dirk's P.O.V.
I watched silently as Iris seemed to drift away mentally, I could see darkness seize her eyes and began to fold in on itself as if the the universe was a dark cloth that someone was wrapping and twisting within her eyes. I sat a moment, waiting for her to come out of it herself. I waited and waited for a solid five minutes. That's when I saw her small form curl up, her hands covering her ears, tiny tears rolled down her cheeks as she stared at nothing with pure horror. That is when I began to panic.
There was no way in hell that I was going to let her drive herself into a near comatose state. I was not about to drive her to a hospital and watch her end up on the news as a random face with a random name with a tragic story. For some reason, I knew that she would never want to be one of the nameless featureless faces on the news. She wouldn't want her younger sister to see her that way. She wouldn't want the two girls she's always with, Lilly and Amelia are their names I think, to see her that way. Hell, I didn't want to see her that way. So I wasn't going to let that happen, not as long as I could do something about it.
I grabbed her shoulders, to be honest I was a bit surprised at how thin they were. She seemed so small now. She always held her head high and had such a vibrant personality that she usually seemed to glow and radiate some sort of ethereal light. She had broad shoulders and good posture, never once had it occurred to me that someone like her could become this small this quickly. What was even worse is that she looked like she was still shrinking, as if she were a black hole destroying herself one piece at a time.
I shook her ever shrinking shoulders.
"Iris! Iris! Speak to me dammit! Iris! Answer me! Snap out of it! God fucking DAMMIT!" I began to yell with a growing volume and intensity. Eventually she looked up at me, her eyes wide and frightened like a deer in the headlights. Her lips parted slightly, she let out a shaky breath and pulled more air in as if she were settling the twister that had formed within her. She muttered one word.
"Mom"
I sat, completely dumbstruck. Her mom. Her greatest fear was her mother, and judging be how she had been acting this wasn't just a mild fear or intimidation. We sat in silence for a moment, then she blinked a few times, coming fully back to reality. She muttered a quick apology and carefully wiped her face that was now flushed. I sighed a bit. We had a relatively short conversation and unsure of what to do when silence ensued again I pulled my headphones out and offered her one. Music helps people feel better... right? She gratefully accepted and began to chatter away about music. I tried to pay attention but I kept getting distracted by how shitty I am at comforting others.
Oh well. She seemed to be grateful anyways for my semi-awkward caring.
