"The best way to find out if you can trust somebody is to trust them."
-Ernest Hemingway
Have you ever thought about what your life will be like as an adult? I haven't. I never thought I would last but a year after high school. But now, I'm laying here, on my roof, at like 4 AM with this stupid, perfect boy next to me and I'm thinking about possibly making it to 25 years old. I don't think about the future for a reason. If you dream about something, whatever you picture won't happen. No matter what it is, it's not going to be exactly what you wanted and you're going to be disappointed.
So with those thoughts in my mind, I slowly, quietly climb down from my roof and get in my car. I start it, and drive away as quickly as possible. Halfway through the city, I realize I have no money and stop at the bank. Because I'm smart, I keep my drivers license in my car because I know I will forget it somewhere and I'll be in handcuffs quicker than you can snap your fingers. I stop at the thing-a-majig that I've never known the name of and press the button. A voice answers and I give her my information and ID. She asks how much I want and I tell her $500 will do it. Soon enough she sends it through the thing and I drive away. I then decide to call my mom. I don't know why I did because god knows that was a shitty idea, but I did.
I sit there, listening to it ring and ring until it finally goes to her voicemail. Then a stupid automated voice says "This number is not available. Please leave a message or try again later." Beep!
"Hey Mom. It's me," I say even though I know she's not listening. "I just wanted to let you know that I'm not home and I probably won't be for a little while. If you come home, you might see a teenage boy waiting on the roof or standing outside on the porch. Just don't like call the cops or anything. He's probably just looking for me. So, see you later, I guess. Bye." I say and press the 'end call' button.
I drive away from the bank and get onto the freeway. Driving away from the town that I hate more than anything. Soon I see signs saying the nearest towns and how many miles away they are and I know I'm safe.
