Chapter Eight
Everything was dark, only the orbs that surrounded her gave her enough light to see the occurrences happening below.
A typical American dream kind of home, equipped with a white picket fence, stood before her. But the home wasn’t what mattered, what mattered was what was going on inside the home.
The orbs stretched out the scenery, and before she knew it she was inside the home the orbs had created. She could sense other forms outside of her own that existed in the residence. And before she knew it three other forms laminated in front of her. Laughing as they carried on around one another in a conversation that she couldn’t make out.
A man, from what she could make out, and two female’s, a lady and a little girl, stood before her. Oblivious to Kylie’s hidden form as she tried to pick out their chipper voices.
Within seconds, the family that had been visible to her before erased from her sight and she was suddenly someplace else. A darker place, she guessed, from how dim the orbs that created the scenery had grown.
In front of her now stood four new figures that she made out within seconds of her spotting them, and it soon crept into her mind that she was in a basement, due the water heater that was beginning to be made out. Eavesdropping on a conversation that she should long-since not be hearing.
“Just get it over with!” She heard Tina groan as she crossed her arms over her chest, “It’s creepy down here...”
“Oh, stop whining Tina!” Abby snapped at her, the waterheater shuddering as she released energy into the room, “What are you doing here anyway?! I was supposed to take care of them! He told me not you.”
Tina opened her mouth to retort before we all heard the floorboards creek above. Muffled voices had arisen and the four hushed their voices.
“We shouldn’t do this” Hailey’s voice chirped through the darkness, “it’s wrong! Don’t you see what’s happening to us? We can’t even stand to be in the same room as one another and now we’re trying to-”
“Oh shut up, Hail. You’re just trying to get his attention, goodie-two-shoes” Penelope snapped at her.
Kylie couldn’t help but shudder at the mixed emotions that filled the room; and the axiety of what the four planned on doing. Kylie heard Hailey’s whimpered response before their voices drew silent.
“Get it over with.” Another voice echoed in the darkness.
Before she knew it, flames engulfed the room with another protest arising from Hailey before the sparks silenced her.
Jumping back from the sudden heat that she could feel, Kylie gasped. Terror shrouded her emotions for both her own safety and the unknown family above.
“Help!” She screamed, her hands went for her throat as her lungs began to swell from the smoke. The flames had grown so much that she could barely make out the rest of the room. The flames had continued up the barren stone walls and found their way the stairs. “Somebody help, please!”
“Kylie!” a frantic voice brought her back to the surface from the dark place she had fallen once the door had shut. “Are you alright?!”
She tried to say something, but instead a moan erupted from her; wincing as she glanced down at her battered form—blood soaked through her jeans as her head throbbed erratically. Smoke was no longer enclosed in her lungs, and she was thankful for that.
