Cody had never felt so happy waking up on a Monday, until that Monday, even though he barely slept. The Monday in which he had kissed his crush, at 3AM, under the light of the moon and at the park which held some of their childhood memories. What he hadn't thought about, was where he was now standing, in his relationship with Melanie. It was a simple question, yet the answer was not.
Were they a couple?
Were they friends with benefits?
Were they just friends?
When he entered school, he felt as if something was missing, or perhaps someone was missing. He kept on walking down the school's hallways full of people and finally reached his locker. Next to him, Allison was talking with Drew about some Math homework. Cody rolled his eyes, Math was really not his thing. "Hey, Cody," Allison smiled, Cody smiled back. "Hey, dude," they did that handshake most guys do before Drew nodded as a small response.
"Have you guys seen Melanie?" Cody asked, confused, because Melanie was never late. They both shook their heads, indicating they had not seen her. "Weird, well, see you later guys," Cody said, grabbing his Math book and walking away.
He walked to Math class, sat down and took out his phone, with some minutes left before the bell rang to indicate the start of class, he texted Melanie.
C: Good morning, have you arrived to school yet?
Sent.
Received.
Read.M: Hey, well, no, I caught a cold and I'm feeling like, really bad
C: Well, I hope you get well soon
M: Thanks, hope you have a nice day, though xo
Xo... Kiss, hug?
At this moment, the bell rang, leaving Cody unable to text back and confused. Was that a sign of them being more than just friends or was he over-reacting?
While the teacher talked about the value of 'x' being greater than the velocity and distance, in the current situation, multiplied or something like that, Cody grabbed his notebook and started drawing his feelings away. What surprised him the most was the fact that he was never the type of guy who would draw about love, in a cute way. In fact, he usually drew hearts with daggers in them or with scars.
The bell rang and he got his stuff organized and left the room, walking towards his next class.
Some hours later, but at several miles from school, Melanie was sitting on the living room's couch, watching a movie while eating a soup her mother had made before going to the grocery store. When she saw the guy grab the girl by her waist and kiss her, she remembered the earlier events, which were the ones taking place where she "caught a cold".
She touched her lips with her index finger, remembering Cody's lips on hers. She had liked the kiss, but she was confused because she did not feel attracted to Cody, she liked him, but she was confused.
Melanie had lied about catching a cold, she felt bad about it, but if she went to classes she would have seen him and it would be awkward, since she does not feel the same way as he does, or she did but wasn't sure about it.
It was all too much for a simple talk at night.
Making things a bit worse, she had received an email from her friend, Ariana Johnson, who moved to Canada about a year ago, but was coming back for the rest of her Senior year because of her father's job. There was nothing bad about her, yet there was a small little detail. Ariana had liked Cody since they were sophomores and Melanie believed she would get over that crush and forget about him while she was gone; she didn't get over it. In fact, most of the emails Ariana had sent to Melanie were half about her life in Canada and other stuff, and half was about how cute Cody was.
Melanie now thought it was most likely to be an obsession instead of a simple crush, but she wasn't a psychiatrist, nor planned to be one. Even though she was not sure if it was an obsession or a crush, she knew Ariana was going to explode if she told her about the kiss, correction, the two kisses she shared with Cody. She could just not tell her, it could be a small secret between Cody and her, but then she would hurt Cody.
The rest of her soup remained cold as she tried to solve the puzzle by herself, but she needed to talk to someone. Everybody was still at school, and by everybody, she meant Cody and Allison. One, she wasn't going to solve Cody's problem with Cody and two, Allison was for sure not going to answer since she was in her precious school time; Allison liked school.
After several seconds passed by, she remembered she had a new friend that would most likely answer her, she wasn't sure, but at least she would try.
Melanie picked up the remote control and turned the television off, she arose from the couch and walked towards the kitchen, leaving her bowl of unfinished soup on the kitchen's sink before running upstairs to her bedroom. She entered her room, closing the door behind her and throwing herself on her bed before grabbing her phone from her nightstand.
M: Hey Kristen, you're obviously in class, but if you could... Would you do me a favor?

Read.K: Of course, this class is boring anyway lol
M: Hahaha, thanks, now, call me when you can
Not even a minute had passed by when her phone was ringing, and it took her by surprised that she almost dropped it. She answered and was greeted by a quite cheerful Kristen.
"Hey!" she said, "Hello," Melanie responded with a nervous chuckle afterwards. "So, what is the big favor you need help with?" Kristen asked. Melanie bit her lip, "Well, I'm going to be pretty straightforward right now," she said, "I kissed Cody, and my friend from Canada has this kind of crush or obsession with him and she's coming here this week."
There was a moment of silence before Kristen responded, "What?! You kissed Cody?" Even though it was pretty straightforward, it seem like she just heard the first part and needed some more details about the actual problem. Melanie sighed, "I kissed Cody, and he likes me, but I don't think I like him that way, I mean I do, but I don't know. Confusing? I know. Now, my friend has a crush on him and she is coming this week and staying for the rest of her Senior year, but she doesn't know that I kissed him."
"Was there any tongue?" "KRISTEN!" "All right, sorry, it just seems interesting," they both let out a small laugh before concentrating on the current situation. "What should I do?" Melanie asked, desperate for an answer, "I think you should tell Cody you need some time to think about what happened between you two and tell your friend what happened," Kristen responded.
Melanie was surprised that she got a serious answer from her, despite earlier incidents. "When should I tell her?" Melanie asked, "I think it's better to tell her before she comes, yet it's your choice," Kristen answered. "When should I tell him?" "If you trust me, I think that the best is for you to tell him as soon as possible," she responded.
Kristen was helpful and it was weird since they knew each other for basically a day, but it felt like a lifetime. "Thank you, Kristen," "Hey, there's no problem, now we're friends, you can count on me," "Like one, two, three?" "I'll be there," Kristen sang the last part and they let out a laugh.
"Well, better get back to class before I get another detention," Kristen said. "Why did you get a detention before?" "I kicked Tyler in the balls," she said. That took Melanie by surprised, but she tried to laugh it away before Kristen hung up.
Poor Tyler's balls, poor Cody's heart, poor Ariana's fist, and poor Melanie's face which was going to be punched by Ariana's fist.
What a beautiful mess.
