"Why weren't you on the bus today?" I ask Kayeden when I meet up with her before first period.
"My Mom gave me a ride today, did you finish your math homework?" she asked. We were both in Math III (Algebra 2, our school had recently switched standards) our sophmore year because our teacher said Math II (Algebra 1) was a waste if time for us, since we covered the material our 9th grade year. We both were really good at math and we both decided that we wanted to be Marine Biologists, where we can work with animals too.
"Yeah, it was hard, but I googled the formula and figured out how to solve most of the problems..." I replied.
"Yeah," she laughed, "me too."
~1st period bell rings~
"See ya in 2nd" I say as I head towards my English class.
"Later," she says as she heads to her class.

First period was the same-Notes, Reading, Essay due tomorrow-and my second period was pretty difficult, but I convinced the teacher to let me and Kayeden sit together where we could share notes. The rest of my day went by really fast, although I really disliked my Biology class because I could feel the boy from this morning staring at me from across the room. Although I forced myself to believe I was being paranoid, for every time I looked at him he was taking his notes. I sat on the bus with Kayeden on the way home.
"See that boy in front of Holly?" I whispered to her.
"Yeah?" she whispered back, "That's the new kid, what about him?"
"He lives down my street and he was staring at me this morning..."
"Really?! He is kinda cute, in a Jock kinda way..." she replied delightfully.
"That's what worries me, because I'm the opposite, I'm the nerdy bookworm who doesn't like people, he apparently doesn't know that, what do I do if he tries to talk to me?"
"Jeez Emily, you need to get your nose out of those books and enjoy some fresh air!" Believe me, I thought, I get more fresh air than you think. I still haven't told Kayeden about my abilities because I'm still not sure anyone would understand, I mean, my brother does but that's different.
