I can't help but think that no matter how much I despise him, I'm beginning to get used to his company.
Now will I let him know that? No. But still.. There is something about him...I snap out of my day dream when I notice him fly up and perch above me again. Annoyed, I close my book and hop down from the tree, gracefully landing on the ground in the form of a cat. My book bag lands next to me as I return to normal and pick it up. Just then, Blake reappears next to me in his normal form.
"That was actually pretty amazing to watch, you really do have the hang of this morphing thing, don't ya?" He remarks.
"Well yeah," I respond sarcastically, "when you are left to figure out what the hell you are, alone, and for long enough... you tend to learn the extent of your abilities."
"True," he responds, "but again, I haven't met many like us, so how was I supposed to know you even bothered practicing?" He says with a smirk.
Lord, give me strength not to punch this kid. He makes everything sound like it has a double meaning. I ignore him and begin to walk back to the house, realizing that with him around, there isn't going to be any reading happening.
"Hey, wait up!" He calls after me, "I wanna annoy you some more, it's really making my day!"
I roll my eyes, "Sorry, but I don't live to entertain you, so can you leave me alone now??" Just then I approach my back door and I hear a loud crash from inside. Forgetting Blake is even near me I sprint into the house and go straight to Stephen's room.
He isn't there, and everything looks normal. I realized how quiet the house was. I know Aunt Izzy is still at work.. But where is Stephen and what was that loud noise. I creep down the hallway and peek into the living room.
Stephen is sitting on the couch, wide-eyed and has tears rolling down his face. He isn't alone. I see a man and a woman, both dressed in black and look heavily armed. The man is screaming into a phone and the woman is shifting between watching Stephen and the front door. Apparently they were too distracted to hear me come in from the back.
Stephen glances towards me and spots where I'm hidden as a mouse peeking out of the hallway. He gives me a look that screams both 'RUN' and 'HELP'. Hang in there bud, I'm gonna get you out of this. I'm so glad Aunt Izzy isn't home right now, but at the same time, maybe these people wouldn't have made it in so easily if she were...
Finally, I remembered Blake. I turn around to see him watching me from the other end of the hall as a similarly sized rat. I take one last glance at same as I back up towards Blake. As much as I hate to admit it, I need his help.
He crawls up to me and I lead him into the first room in the hallway - which happens to be mine - and return human. Seeing me freaked out, he follows suit and stays quiet as he waits for me to regain my composure enough to explain the situation.
"There are to people out there," I whisper, "They have my Brother."
"Hunters," he curses under his breath, "I had a feeling they would follow me, but I didn't know they'd come after you.."
"What?!" I whisper scream, "You lead them here?!"
"Not intentionally," he whispers guiltily whispers back.
At this point my anger is beyond words but I need to find a way to save Stephen from this mess. And I'm going to make Blake help me...
