Chapter 5~ I Bet

Riley P.O.V

I let my ears listen before I open my eyes. I pick up the sound of something frying in a pan on the stove. I hear water running somewhere closer, like a shower.

I slowly peer my sore eyes open and look around. I'm in a bed, in someone's bedroom. The walls are grey and scattered with posters and photo's. I try to guess who's house I'm in by the photos but there aren't many of people in them. But judging overall, it's definitely a male's bedroom.

Oh god.

I ease myself to a sitting position, expecting to projectile vomit, but I don't. I look down at the grey jumper that has been thrown over my top half, my blue party dress on underneath. I reach a hand over to the other side of the bed which is still warm, meaning my bed buddy has only recently got up.

I slip out of the messy bed and wait until I've found my balance before walking to the door. When I step into the hallway, I recognize it almost immediately.

Jacob Ashford.

Please tell me I haven't fucked everything up again.

I take soft steps toward the kitchen where the frying sound is coming from. Jacob stands with his back to me, cooking something on the stove and pleasantly singing to himself. I smile and look down at my pale feet when I recognize the song.

"Didn't pick you for a Lorde fan." I grin as he jumps in fright.

"Geez, you scared the crap out of me." He stares at me before softening his features, "And it's stuck in my head."

I pace across the lounge room and sit down at the bench.

"Thought you'd be hungry when you got up, scrambled eggs ok?" He turns his back to me again and continues cooking.

"That's fine, thank you. We didn't uhh...." I look down and pick at my nails, "We didn't have..?"

"Oh god no," Jake shakes his head quickly, like having sex with me would be an insult.

Ouch.

"What happened then?"

"You were so wasted at that party. You started stripping in front of everyone and America had gone home. So I got you out of there and brought you here to sleep." He turns around with the frying pan in one hand. "You wouldn't let me leave you alone so I stayed in the bed with you. I was going to leave when you fell asleep but I fell asleep too. I'm really sorry."

"No, that's ok." I half smile. "Thank you for saving me."

I catch his deep blue eyes and he smiles softly.

I'm so glad I didn't screw things up with him.

"Eggs?! You shouldn't have!"

I jump in my seat and spin around to see Chase Miller.

"I didn't." Jake says flatly behind me.

Chase looks at me and grins, "Have a sleepover did we?"

Jake drops the pan on the sink with a crash and glares up at Chase.

"Don't you start," He hisses.

"Ok ok, I'm not here." Chase holds up his hands in surrender and sneaks around us to the fridge.

Jacob places a plate of steaming scrambled eggs in front of me and begins to pour a glass of orange juice.

"You honestly didn't have to make me breakfast." I look up at him.

"It's ok, I was hungry too." He smiles down at his own plate of eggs.

Chase crashes on the couch and switches on the tv, crunching loudly at some breakfast cereal. I see Jake shake his head and roll his eyes.

"You can have a shower here if you like. I heard the dorm showers still aren't working."

"That'd be good, thanks." I nod.

"Where have you been showering?"

"America's boyfriend has his own place so we've been going there. She is staying there at night as well but I'm still at the dorms." I reply after swallowing my mouthful.

"That sounds shit." Jake says.

"It is very shit. You're so lucky you have your own apartment."

"Why don't you stay here?" Chase pipes up from the couch.

"Who? Me?" I frown and stare at him.

"Why not? You stayed here last night." He shrugs with a smile.

"I was drunk you idiot. Jake was just being nice. I bet he doesn't even want me here, right?" I turn back to Jacob who is concentrating on picking at his food.

"You can stay, I mean, it'd be easier for you." He says quietly.

"Guys I was kidding! I bet you couldn't last a week living together!" Chase sits up in alert while chuckling.

I smile to myself.

"I'll take that bet." I turn my head back to Jake who is already looking at me.

"What?" They both say in unison.

"Chase coughs up a hundred bucks for us each if we can survive a week living together." I wiggle my eyebrows at Jake and smirk.

"And if you can't survive that long?" Chase says to me.

"We both give you a hundred bucks. Fair?"

He shrugs while smiling, "I'm in, that's easy money for me."

We both look at Jake who is breathing nervously.

"Fine, I'm in," He says.

"Great!" I grin and go back to eating my food.

"I have question," Chase starts again, "Where is Riley going to sleep?"

Everyone goes silent and exchange glances.

Oh crap.

"No one can sleep on the couch for a week, it's too uncomfortable." Jacob says.

"Lets raise the stakes then." Chase rubs his hands together smirking.

Oh shit.

"I'll make it two hundred for the each of you if you can survive the week together, and sleep in the same bed without fucking."

"Oh please." I roll my eyes.

"Take it or leave it." He leans back on the couch.

Jake looks at me and shrugs, "That's two hundred dollars for each of us if we win."

I nod. "We're in."

Chase comes over and shakes our hands in conformation of the bet.

What have I gotten myself in to?
