---------Chapter 12 ~ So Much For Winning
Riley P.O.V
I swing back and forth on the desk chair in my dorm room. Although it doesn't really feel like I ever lived in here.
Most of my things that progressively moved over to Jake's apartment have been moved back and are scattered on my bed.
"Hey chicky." America greets as she enters the dorm, books and papers in her arms.
"Hey. What's all that?"
"Class work, what else?" She sighs.
"That reminds me. I'm so behind on everything."
"Is all the love in the air distracting you?"
"Excuse me?" I chuckle.
"Oh please. You and Jake haven't left each others side all week."
"That's not true. You and Chase are there half the time when we hang out."
"Right," America nods, unconvinced about whatever she thinks I'm trying to hide.
"How are going to cope not having the dorm to yourself anymore, Mare?"
"It's going to be tough, believe me. I never really liked living with you in the first place." She shrugs and pokes her tongue out at me.
"Gee, thanks." I laugh. "And besides, now you won't be able to invite that boyfriend of yours over to have sex on this lovely couch."
America coughs on an awkward laugh, "Actually, Trent hasn't been over here at all."
It falls silent and both our moods change.
"Did you guys break up?" I quickly ask.
"Well, no. Not really. We had a fight."
America isn't the kind of girl to get emotional very often. So when she does, it is a big deal.
"A fight about what?" I ask cautiously.
"I don't know. I invited him to come over tonight since you would be at the apartment for your last night. Then he said some stuff about how college sucks and that it is full of immature girls. But he's dating me, right? So does that mean he thinks I'm immature?"
"I don't think he'd be dating you if he did. You have to remember though that he is quite a bit older than you." I say in a comforting voice.
"Yeah, I guess. Maybe it's best if me and him did just break up."
"It's up to you, Mare. If he makes you feel bad though and you two are fighting all the time, you shouldn't be with him."
"You're right," She nods solemnly.
"Now, give me a hug before I go," I say standing up and going over to her.
She hugs me back tightly. "Thank you, and have fun on your last night at the apartment."
*****
I use the key I have borrowed while staying here to unlock the apartment door, wondering why it was locked in the first place since Jake is home.
