Derek was at a complete loss. He had no idea what to do or to think. He was currently driving to Lydia's lake house with Sophia in the passenger seat and Jason in the back, unconscious. It wasn't the situation per-say that had Derek at a loss, it was every single time he looked at Jason. Since the others had pointed it out, it was never out of Derek's mind. But Derek didn't think he looked that much like himself, no.

Jason looked just like Laura.

They had the same eyes, the exact same eyes. Jason's hair was the same color as Laura's, he even smelled like her. Everything about the sleeping boy reminded Derek of his sister, the sister he lost because he couldn't protect her. Derek didn't know what he felt about this kid yet but he was sure that he was in fact a Hale for no other reason than Derek just knew.

Derek took a deep breath and let it out slowly. Whatever happened, he would protect Jason. If he couldn't protect him, then it would be like loosing Laura all over again. Derek racked his brain trying to remember Jason when he was younger but no matter how hard he tried, he couldn't remember him. But there was something so hauntingly familiar in him that wasn't Laura, something that was distinctly Jason that was incredibly familiar to Derek but that he couldn't place.

When it finally hit him, Derek wanted to punch himself in the face. His mother had erased the part of Derek that remembered Jason. But why? For what purpose? An even more pressing question was why was Jason not dead? Had he somehow escaped the fire, no, Derek would remember him then. Why did Jason not seem to know who he was.

Who was he?

Derek had so any questions buzzing around his head he didn't even realize they were already at the lake house and Sophia was talking to him. "Huh?" Derek said.

Sophia sighed and rolled her eyes. "I said, please carry Jay inside, I'm going to go get the basement ready."

Derek nodded and got out of the car. He picked Jason up, shocked at how light the boy was. He really was tiny and seemed so very fragile. Derek felt the immediate desire to protect him again, it was coming more regularly the more time he spent around Jason. He took another deep breath and started heading towards the lake house.

Derek took Jason into the basement where he and Sophia chained him up. Sophia sighed and Derek glanced at her. "What's wrong?" he asked, feeling the conflicted emotions rolling off of her.

Sophia looked over at Derek, "I just, I know that Jay is telling us the truth and that he wouldn't run, I just don't want to chain him up like this." she said.

Derek nodded silently, and hesitantly placed a hand on Sophia's shoulder. The physical contact made Derek's heart beat a bit faster, he couldn't deny his attraction to her for much longer.

He sighed, things were getting more and more complicated by the moment.
