Narrator POV
"Princess, your father is expecting you in the dinning hall in two minutes." One of the servants named Jean said.
"Thank you." Emma said.
Emma ran to meet her mother who was indeed in the dining hall.
"Ah Emma just in time!" Snow exclaimed.
"What was it that you needed?" Emma asked.
"Oh it wasn't me dear, your father wanted to tell you about the new guards or something like that. He is in his study if you wanted to ask him."
"Oh okay, thanks mom."
Emma ran to her father's study to see what he wanted. She hoped that he wasn't expecting her to be on time.
"Hey dad, mom said you needed me." Emma said.
"Oh yes Emma. I was going to take you to meet the new guards at noon." David said.
"Well it is five till, if you wanted to go now."
"Sure, let's go."
David and Emma walked with linked arms to the gardens.
"So dad, how many men did you hire?" Emma asked.
"Twenty. Ten to guard the outside wall, and ten to guard inside the castle." David replied.
Once they reached the gardens, all the men were lined up in a neat and single file line. All were dressed in amour. Their helmets clutched underneath their arms. Emma was interested in all of them, but one in particular stood out. He had black hair, stubble lining his face, and the most beautiful blue eyes that a person could hope for. She soon found herself staring, but her fathers voice caused her to look away.
"Alright men. As you know, you were hired for extra protection. You all have been under tests to determine whether you will stay outside, or go inside of the castle."
When Emma heard this, she didn't know how she would feel if this one particular guard came inside, or if he would stay outside. The men were lined in two rows. Each with ten, one on the right, and one on the left.
"Now, you." David said pointing to the line on the left. "Will be guarding the wall. It is your job to fight against any intruder, and to alert me or my personal guard Morgan. Now get to work, you know your positions." Emma was relieved that he wasn't in this line. That would mean that he would be inside the castle with her. She had eavesdropped on her mother talking to her father earlier this week that some of the new guards would be stationed in her wing of the castle.
"Now some of you have heard that you will be stationed outside and inside of the princess's corridor. These whispers are correct. I have chosen two of you to be placed inside her hall." David said. Emma hadn't payed much attention before, but listened closely to this.
"August Booth." David said. A man stepped forward and stood beside the king. "Blake Jones." The man Emma had her eye on stepped forward and did the same thing that August did.
This time Blake caught Emma's gaze and gave her a wink, which made her smile to herself.
"Now the rest of you, you know your positions. You are dismissed." David said. The eight guards walked away, so all that was left was August, Blake, Emma, and David.
David turned around to face Blake and August. "You two are my most trusted guards, that is why you were chosen to protect Princess Emma."
Emma curtsied in front of Blake and August, and they returned it with a bow. It was a fight to not let her eyes look at one part of his face for longer than a few seconds at a time. Later that night after dinner, Emma was walking back to her bedroom, but ran into Blake.
