General pov

Hermione is standing on platform 9 ¾.

Today is the first day of September and a new school year is about to begin.

Now that the war is finally over she and a majority of the students have come back for their 7th and final year. Looking around she spots familiar faces. Everyone looks happy to be back, though you can still see the memories of the war painted on people their faces. The war took its toll on everyone.

You can see some still have scars, on their faces and hands, and that's only the ones I'm able to see. There might be more scars hidden by clothes.

People are smiling, but for some it seems like the smiles take effort. Almost like it pains them. Some even look guilty after they smile or laugh.

If you pay enough attention you can also see people turning around halfway, as if they are turning to say something to the person on their side, but remember that there is no one there. You can see people look eagerly in the crowd, only to remember that they will not be able to find that person.

They're gone...

So many of them, gone.

I doubt we'll ever really get used to it. The holes left by the war can never be filled.

The only thing we can do is move forward. Step by step.

Babysteps though...

Hermione her eyes drift over to her parents, who are taking in the sight.

It took all summer for the Ministry to locate Hermione her parents, but at last, they were found and their memories restored. She spend most of her summer at the Burrow, but once her parents were back, of course she spent the remaining days of the summer with them. Hermione told them all about the war and what had happened. They weren't really happy about it, but they understood.

At least she was safe. At least they were together again. A family.

Now, she found herself back at the location that would bring her to the place she always saw as her second home, Hogwarts. She was excited to go back and start with classes again.

She knew this would be the year that a head boy and head girl would be chosen. Hermione liked to think that she was one among the possible candidates for this job. She also hoped that the head boy would be someone who would take responsibility and help her with the tasks they would face. This all would of course happen, if she were to be head girl.

Hermione was so deep in thoughts that she didn't even notice Ginny running her way. "Hermione! Oh, it's so good to see you again! I've missed you so much." Hermione looked at her friend and smiled. "It's good to see you too Gin, though it's only been a few days."

"I know silly. Come on, the others are waiting for you in the train."

Hermione turns around and hugs her parents goodbye. She promises to write them soon. They look a bit uncertain, afraid to let her go. She feels she can't blame them.

As she walks away with Ginny she turns back to wave at her parents one last time.

They walk over to the cabinet where all of their friends are sitting. Inside, Harry, Ron, Luna and Neville are already sitting and talking about their holidays. "Hi guys." Hermione greets them. Everyone looks up and smiles as a way of greeting back.
