Chapter Seven
"Dany te..." Brooklyn cutted me off. " Amy dear do you want to go out for a walk and have a chat?" Brooklyn suggested. I walked out with her. We didn't say anything for a few moments. "Amy dear can you please be honest with me?" Brooklyn asked in a serious tone that I wasn't familiar with. "Do you perhaps know the man in the picture?" She asked with a hoarse voice.
"Yeah well he's actually my grandfather from my mom's side." I explained. But right then she stood still and stared at the bench nearby. As I kept walking I noticed that she wasn't there beside so I turned and found her on the ground. I raced towards her and sat her on the bench, she held my hand tightly. Tear came running down her cheeks.
"I... I don't understand what's going on." Brooklyn stuttered. I run and bought soda from the vending machine nearby and handed it to her.
She calmed down and asked me to sit down beside her. "Dear is your mom whom you have been searching for, Layla?" I nodded. Wait so Brooklyn actually knows mom this means that I can find my mom I have hope! I thought with excitement going through my entire body. But Brooklyn doesn't seem happy about it."Leave. The first thing tomorrow you must go back to your home don't stay here anymore." Brooklyn ordered. "But I thought you..." She cutted me off and said,"What! You thought I would help you find your mother just because I know who she is? Is that what you thought huh? Amanda?"She was furious though I didn't know why. But wait I never introduced myself as Amanda to anyone not even to Brooklyn? How did she know that was my name. No one has ever called me by that name except for grandpa. I was in a deep thought for a while. "Sorry child, I scared you didn't I, its just that things won't be good if you stay here any longer so I suggest you should go and never show up here. Its what's best for all of us."
"Nana but I don't understand tell me what is the reason Nana. Tell me."
"I guess your dad probably didn't tell you anything huh? Well unlike your dad I believe you're old enough to know and I should tell you. But you must never mention any of this to Dany. And that will be the only priority on which I can let you stay."
"Okay. Agreed I promise." I raise my right hand."See Mr Douglas and and Dany's father were close friends for years. Mr McCartney had helped Dany's father, my son Gillingham Jones when he was going through difficult times. At that time my son was married to Dany's mother Malvern right after he was done with highschool. He didn't have a job or any money that he saved. Along came little Dany and there were more responsibilities left out for these two to carry out. It was so hard for them to raise Dany. At that time I had been in a comma from hypertension that came along the shock that these two had been married." She took a break and sipped her soda and continued. "Gilly had found work at Mr McCartney's and work there for about four years. Mr McCartney trusted him alot. Gilly once asked Mr McCartney if he could invest in his business ideas. And so he did help him. Gilly's business went successfully and he was able to live happily for a while. "But then an unexpected thing happens to my poor daughter Leslie. She was 8 years younger than Gillingham."
