Ruby's POV:

I was bored sitting in my house alone. My mom was working, so I stepped out the front door. I sat there on the edge of the porch overlooking the ocean. I was so distracted with the beauty of it, that I fell off. Expecting to meet with a faceful of sand, I squeezed my eyes shut. I never was met with sand, but rather a friend. She was holding me. "Hey Sapphire." I waved at her and it made her laugh. "You should be more careful." She said with a giggle. "What's the fun in that?" I asked her with a smile on my face. "Keeping you alive." She said and we both bursted into laughter. "Come on. I have something to show you." Sapphire said and she grabbed my arm. "Where are we going?" I asked as we strolled down the boardwalk. "You'll see when we get there." She said with a smile on her face.

Sapphire stopped in front of a store. I looked up at the sign. "Ice cream?" I asked and Sapphire nodded her head and brought me into the store with her. It was cold for me, but I always liked warm temperatures better than colder ones. There was no one in the line ahead of us, so we were served first. "What can I get for you?" The ice cream worker asked. "Vanilla please." Sapphire requested. The worker handed over her ice cream cone. I looked over at Sapphire. "I didn't bring any money." I whispered. "You weren't supposed to. Pick out an ice cream flavor." She said and smiled at me. "Um, chocolate." I said and the worker handed me my ice cream cone. Sapphire handed over the money. "Thank you. Come again!" The worker yelled as we walked out of the door. We both waved at him and he waved back.

We both were walking along the boardwalk and I tripped. My ice cream dropped and began to melt on the ground. "Darn." I said and Sapphire giggled. "Here." She handed me her ice cream and I held out my hand. "No. This is yours." I said and gave the ice cream back to her. I really liked Sapphire, but I did not know how to tell her. I had a present for her in my pocket. It had to be the perfect moment though. This is too special to just hand to her. I stopped in my tracks and thought of an idea. "Go home and come back later. Around Eight at night. I have a suprise for you." I said and Sapphire smiled. "Okay. See you later." She said and hugged me. I was taken back for a moment, but hugged her back. "See you later." I said and we departed from the hug.

Sapphire's POV:

I really liked Ruby. I just couldn't say the words. Instead of muttering to myself, I let out a deep sigh. We both met at school when I was getting beat up by the popular kids. That is, until Ruby stepped in and kicked their butts. She carried me home after school that day and brought me to her house. She said that her mom was always working, so that I could come over anytime I wanted to. She took me in, and fixed me up. One of the kids twisted my arm, so Ruby put a cast on it. She layed me down on the couch and brought me some hot chocolate and turned on the television for me. We have been friends ever since. She was my best friend.

I eventually reached back home. My mom was sitting on the couch and looked up at me. "Hi. How has your day been going?" She asked with a smile on her face. "Good. Can I go over to Ruby's tonight around eight?" My mother nodded her head. "Be careful." She said. "I will." I said. Anytime I ever went anywhere she would tell me that. I eventually got used to it and appreciated that she cared so much.

Nighttime came around and I looked over at my clock. It was 7:30. I stretched and put on a nice dress. It was blue and was long. I loved it, it was my favorite one, but I never wore it much. I wanted to keep it nice, since my father gave it to me. He died last year when he got some disease. I loved him, and every time I wore this dress, it was like I was taking a piece of him wherever I went.

I eventually reached Ruby's house and found a note stuck to the door. "Come in." It said and I smiled. When I walked in the house there were little rose petals that lead a trail. I found another note stuck on one of the lamps. "Follow the petals." I said aloud. Whatever Ruby was planning for me was special. I could tell she put effort into this. I looked down at my feet and saw that the rose petals had stopped. "It's about time you showed up here." The voice sounded as smooth as silk. I looked up and saw Ruby sitting on a blanket which was on the ground. There was a fire going and she had something in her hands. I smiled at her. I sat down next to her on the blanket and she took my hands in hers. "Ever since I met you, I have had these feelings for you and I felt like it was about time I confessed them to you. Sapphire. I love you. The way you talk, your laugh, your everything. Your perfect." My mouth was open and it was hard to breath. Ruby handed me a box. I smiled at her and opened it. I was met with a beautiful gold ring with a Sapphire in the middle of it. "It's beautiful." I said and Ruby took the ring and slid it onto my finger. "Not as beautiful as you." She said with a smile. I couldn't help myself anymore. I kissed her. Ruby wrapped her arms around me and I did the same. Sapphire, the once shy girl, was not shy anymore.
