I couldn't believe it, I got out, I got to go home! But... God I don't know how I could explain what was going on. I didn't even understand it fully myself, but I began to out it together. They had someone drop me off at home and I slowly walked to the front door not really knowing what to say or do or how they'd react.
I opened the front door and walked in, the house looked empty and felt barren."Tommy?" I heard Jade call from upstairs, and her footsteps slowly come down them "I was wondering-" she froze staring at me in shock. She opened her mouth but the words won't come out, she walked to me, a small smile on my face. "What... I... I don't understand"
My lips went into a straight line and I began to stutter, Jade looked at me, already sensing as something was wrong. "Jade...I..." I took in a deep breath, looking at her confused , worried eyes. "They put me through a physical..."
"Are... Are you sick?" She covered her mouth, she was still quiet, and her voice was distant, like her mind was on something else and she refused to talk about it.
"Wait what's wrong first?" I asked, trying to change the subject but Jade didn't buy it, she placed her hands on her hips.
"Nothin'" she spoke, sounding like her brother. "What's going on Naomi?" I sighed, looking at Jade.
"I... I don't... I uh, I don't know how to..." My eyes closed, I began to shake "they put me through some tests and... Well...I uh, they couldn't deploy me..." Jade stared at me blankly, I didn't answer her question, her hands crossed over her chest, her eyes were burning into me. "Jade, i'm pregnant" I said quickly. Jade stood and stared at me, smiling a huge smile, but then it faded when she realized I wasn't smiling back. "I... I think it's Petes..." I couldn't hold in the sob anymore and I broke down.
Jades face was pure shock, she sat down on the couch not able to say anything, she looked angry and sad and mad. "Are you sure?"
"I mean... I... I'm pretty sure who else could it be?..." Jade looked at me, and I knew what she was thinking. I shook my head, "That... That night, I'm almost positive it was Pete... But I don't know who the other..." I trailed off noticing how uncomfortable Jade became. "What happened that night?"
She shook her head, "don't worry about it that's not important, what's important is..." She trailed off, staring at my flat stomach. "Oh my god...Tommy's gonna be so angry"
"Don't tell him" I pleaded.
"You have to!"
"No Jade, not yet!" She stared at me, wondering how I could just keep something like that from him. She didn't say anything she just stared at the floor. "I can't tell him yet I don't know how"
"Same way you told me" she reasoned, standing up and holding my shoulders. I shook my head again, refusing. "Whatever you say" she breathed. "I'm glad you're home..." She hugged me, but even still she felt different, shaky, jumpy, sad. She sighed, heparin the door open and someone walking in. I turned around to face Tommy who dropped everything he was holding.
"N-Naomi?" He called out to me, running to me and picking me up. "What? I-I don't understand!" I looked at Jade who gave me a hard stare, but I ignored it.
"They had enough soldiers.... Told me they didn't need me yet, so they sent me home" I smiled the best smile I could. God knows how badly I wanted to tell him, and I had no idea if he could tell something was off with me but I swallowed the lump in my throat and letting Tommy hold me closely, knowing full well what he'd do if he found out.
